Fallout 3, who is this for?

Why the hell guys that never played fallout are here making noise? Really, why? Why register yesterday only to write things like "I never played fallout, but the bethesda guys are good and the game will be awesome". Someone? I

Freedom-o'-speech.

I'd much rather have someone who confesses they've never played Fallout say what Bethesda is doing is good, than have someone who claims they've played and loved Fallout say what Bethesda is doing is good.

Also, your English isn't that bad :)

I hate to be a troll. I'm sick of 3rd person RPG's and fed ex missions. One reason I wont buy fallout 3 is because its not ISO. Call me a troll I dont care, ISO view offers ALOT more then most 3rd person view rpg's. I'm all for a 3d RPG, just with ISO view. Afterfall looks amazing. Even if I wont buy fallout 3, I certainly will play it to see how badly they raped fallout. As a fallout fan, one of the main things that made me love the game is the INFO box on the bottom left, and that it was ISO. The last TRUE rpg I played was Icewindale 2. Ever since Ive been playing FPS because there seems to be NO RPG's out. Fallout 3 is not an RPG. Its not even turn based, it doesnt have anything that fallout 1 and 2 offered. I dont care about judging a book by its cover, even if its not done. I bet everyone on this forum fallout 3 wont even be fallout.
I plan on checking out NeverWinterNights though!

While you're not being a troll, goffy, you might wanna realize isometric view *is* a third-person view.

To clarify what I meant by 3rd person view, I'm mainly talking about how GTA: SA played. And oblivion has that, and its FPS.
ISO view is more far away then 3rd person view(I'm talking about how WOW/NWN/ play.) I want the SAME ISO as fallout 1 and 2. Ive played Lion Heart, and overall I liked it, and fallout 3 would be great if it looked that way. Afterfall looks a lot more promising then Fallout 3.

You know, I have to agree with kylix999... if it wasn't for Bethesda we wouldn't have a Fallout 3 at all. Most of us would still be pining away for it or daydreaming about the liquifying creatures of the wastes. We should be thankful for that alone. I, myself, was even hoping for the traditional isometric view and a basic carbon-copy of Fallout 1 and 2, but such ideas are rather asinine. Things must change.

Additionally, I'm glad (though I love Feargus) Obsidian didn't get their hands on it. I was highly disappointed with Neverwinter Nights 2, a sequel to another of my favorite games of all time. I don't think they did it justice and ruined what could have been a great sequel.

Finally, the Van Buren project was a disappointment. Even though it was an in-development stage demo, I thought it was horrible. Granted not as bad as that Brotherhood of Steel game or the not as horrible but still bad Fallout Tactics. But I think their "updates" to the system would have been horrendous.

If you think NWN2 was a disappointing sequel to NWN1, I am very shocked that you think Beth will do a good job with F3... Every game they have made since Daggerfall has been a bigger disappointment than the last, and they haven't got the excuse of being a different studio either. Did you know Daggerfall had (amongst other things) mounted combat? MW had no horses at all, and Oblivion just let you ride them, talk about a retrograde!

At least NWN2 improved massively upon the single player experience. NWN didn't get a semi competent SP campaign till HOTU came out, a long time later.

You really can't judge VB on that demo alone, you need to read all the source material... the tech demo was void of many gameplay features, and was basically made to show the guys with the money that they weren't spending it on crack. You comment on VB's updates being terrible? you do know Beth have basically adopted those updates (reduced number of skills, etc) for F3, and dumbed them down even more? Isometric isn't dead either, you note you have played NWN2, that's a modern game with ISO and it sold just fine, even has a huge expansion in development. Beth are making FO3 FPV because that is all they have experience in doing, and 'cos they are too lazy to try something a bit different.

If F3 neither plays, nor resembles Fallout 1/2 - what does it matter if it has F3 written on the box? It may as well be called Resident Oblivion :P

It's an insidious conspiracy to destroy the noble cTRPG genre and prevent The Golden Age of cRPGs from happening.
The communists need to keep games dumb and devoid of real moral choices to take over minds of people. To them a good person is one that is unable to handle complex situations.
cTRPGs teach people about multiple ways of solving problems - communists accept only one solution - power. To gain that power they need to enslave the mankind.
To enslave the mankind they need to turn people to obedient sheep that will live their lives in FPP 3d virtual worlds.
They simplify their perception - a good slave can't be perceptive, can't be able to free their mind by tasting a moment of Here & Now - experiencing the Reality - how it really looks, tastes, smells, feels.

FPP 3d ARPGs with their "photorealistic" graphics are a great way to simplify the perception of gamers and to teach them to obey.

ahah

Without bethesda we wouldn't have a fallout 3? We don't have one anyway. I put all my money on Obsidian, because chris avollone seems to be a devote fan. Brian said something about wasteland 2, and now I'm passed fallout 3, and now waiting for wasteland 2. Even if it doesn't have S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Black Isle developers are so goddamn creative, that they don't need pipboy to make money. Beth can sell out all they want, but Black Isle will ALWAYS come up with better ideas that are new and innovative. Yeah Tim cain isn't making it, but I'd rather have Obsidian do it then have Bethsoft turn it into a shoot em up bang bang scam. YES I know Black Isle is not a company anymore, but Obsidian might as well be the "new black isle". They certainly have a lot of the ex emlployees. Maybe Brian will give us a bonus by allowing Tim Cain to work on it, and the others from Troika.

Obsidian only has a few original Fallout developers (as far as I know only Brian Fargo, who did very little work on the original game) and mostly Fallout 2 and Van Buren devs.

Also, the argument 'at least you're getting something' is absolute horseshit. Quality does matter.

I actually registered here just for this post.

I've loved the Fallout series since it started, and I was really happy to see this article. I really hope someone at Bethesda reads it, especially the parts about the art, such as the Super Mutant and the promo video and the vault postcard, because it makes it painfully obvious that Bethesda's art department doesn't quite understand what they are doing or what they are supposed to be doing.

I expect this game to be fun, but a sort of bittesweet experience, in that it will make it really clear that the Fallout series is thoroughly dead, and we're playing some wierd bastard child game.

Anyway, thanks for the article, it's good to read something like this in one place, rather than scattered across posts in a forum.

Brian Fargo works at InXile, I think you mean Feargie.

As for original Fallout people; Feargus Urquhart, Dan Spitzley, Darren L. Monahan, Scott Everts, T-Ray Isaacs, Dennis Presnell and Chris Jones all worked on NWN 2, a number of them are still there (not T-Ray, unsure about Everts).

Man, I love when you get into a frenzy. Foamy.

Yes, Wasteland 2 will probably be way better than Fallout 3, especially if Brian Fargo is heading it.

Though I must disagree, I had no love for Neverwinter 2. It was more or less the system changes that threw me off. The drop-down menu instead of the radial menu seemed like a bad choice, and could be a bit awkward at times. Plus the AI in the first three patches was horrible. What patch are they up to now? And despite all the tweaking I could muster, plus upgrading my already fast system, the game ran terribly. Still does.

But don't get me wrong, I was excited Feargus had taken over Neverwinter. Hell, I pre-ordered it. But I feel most of the "improvements" were pointless or draining on performance.

I'm more in favor of games keeping their original designs and just expanding on it. Perhaps if VB would have kept the single image characters instead of polygons, just improved the few problems with Fallout 2, and expanded the content.

One way or the other, Fallout is in it's grave. It's sold to someone else. Their game may not be a true Fallout sequel (then again, what could be). But I'll probably still pick up a used copy, or borrow a friend's. Bethesda never was good at cd-key requirements, thankfully.

Game Informer doesn't provide many examples of Fallout 3's humor, but one in particular sticks out: a situation in which you hack a computer to send a ticketbot to use its laserguns (?) to kill a gang of super mutants. Once the ticketbot is activated, it asks for tickets from the super mutants, when they don’t provide any, the ticketbot kills them.

This keeps ticking me off, its not funny, its stupid.
What kind of idea do the Beth Boys want to show, that if people in the future don't have a ticket they are to be executed by laser?

If the damn bot gave a punishing electric shock I could understand that, but a civilian purpose robot with an energy weapon?
Beth, even if lasers become part of army weapons I doubt we are going to see civilian owners of laser weapons.

Laser Pistol.

I second that. It doesn't make sense.

Yeah, that's a little overdone.

A riot bot that want's an ID Card, on the other hand...

One of my burning questions is.

If they are any kind of worried about fallout fans or making the fallout anything like the originals.... why not bring the original creators in at least as consultants... not like they dont have enough money.

Maybe you guys should chill out.

Most of the comments i read here are way off you guys need to read a little bit more then just the GI article go to gamespot and look up the other articles by various gaming groups/ companys.

Im a long time fallout fan, but im also a fan of almost any type of game (oblivion, CS:S, half life series, RTS's and just about any old ass isometric game)

I think the game will turn out to be awsome, but then again it could be utter crap anyway you look at it, its going to be a game.
