still quite a beginner with 3d so it aint as good as it could be...

I don't like the basic shape of the helmet, but it looks very textured, pretty rust.

very nice! I like the 3d version of the pipboy. Great idea and well executed. you should put more time on the textures on the others though. not reuse that rusty one so much. and texture coordinates! that helmet has some bad stuff going on on the top of it..

yeh, i think il but the helmet as a link so it wont seem like thats the only image :P.

anyway, all but one were made with my old 1,3ghz/32mb gfx rig so i could not work with extures.... rendering a tiny image took hours so all i could do was throw on some random premade materials and hold my fingers crossed...

the stimpack was the first one i made on a decent rig, unfortunately, atm i dont have time to give it uvw mapping and stuff as im moving to denmark in a day or 2.... going to work on it once im setteled in(might be days, might be weeks)

as for the helmet, that was like a 10 minute random thing, thought it had a nice starwars/sci-fi thing going on but meh, what do i know :D

I really dig the pipboy.

wondering if setting up 3ds to render at the fallout isometric view is easy and if there are any docs on that. thanks

I don't mean to complain or anything.. but wasn't the Pipboy a wrist-worn device, similar to a watch that the Vault Dweller could easily look at by simply lifting his or her wrist?

You make it look more like a portable GPS system than something that's supposed to be a compact device..

Sorry, just nitpicking.. ;)

I think DarkLegacy is right, actually.
I've read that somewhere too.

It is very easy. Create a target camera and use the positioning parameters for placement. In the fallout wiki there's info on the angles. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes to get it right. Good luck!

edit: sorry if this might have been a bit misleading.

our friends over at fife have all the info we need.

so, since I'm at class I've made these small screens for you.

This is how to make renders with the fallout Tactics angle. Just change the numbers when positioning the camera..

make sure to check the Orthographic projection box or you'll end up with a scewed perspective. I feel awesome for screwing that up in the screenshot.

Alright. So you managed to create the camera. Yey! Select it, not the point at which it looks. Now right click on the positioning thingie in the top menu. This will bring forth a handy little window. Input the position.

Change the perspective view to camera view by clicking the small text bar which should look something like this.

Tada!

Sorry for cluttering the thread.

yes, the Pipboy is supposed to be wristworn and small. but ingame it doesnt look like that either (lettering too small, very bad ergonomics etc), so doesnt matter how you interpret it.

those are life size renders

Really? Then you must have some darned small fingers to operate the Pipboy conveniently.

Details, details, though. He looks great.

well, i was going for the low tech retro look... big and bulky, wrist watch thing was introduced in the original fallout3 anyway.... the fo2 layout doesnt look like something you put on your hand.

anyway, i arrived in aarhus a few days ago, searching for a dorm but i have some internetless time at night so il work a little on the stimpack...

You could still strap it to your arm. Sure, it won't be very comfy, but it'll work.

I've gotta say your work is great, especially the Pip Boy. Looks good and stays true to the Fallout design.
