Fallout ConstructionSet

Still Mildly Glowing
was just reading feargus interview with gamepro from ages ago and this bit

"GP: Changing the subject, since you headed both Fallout 1 and 2, do you have any thoughts on Bethesda taking on Fallout 3?

FU: I'm cool with it. I mean that's why I didn't want to leave Black Isle for so long because I wanted to make the next Fallout, and knew if I left that I couldn't make Fallout. It's one of those things that I want to wish them the best of luck--Fallout fans are the worst fans there are. I'd still like to make another Fallout, but something that worries me is whether or not making another Fallout makes sense. It was cool and a lot of fun seven years ago, but is it pertinent anymore? Both of those games sold about 500-750,000 games--it's not a blockbuster, but still pretty good for a game like that--would still that many people buy it? It's a different market now--that was around the last time that people can ship sleeper hits--it's hard to have a sleeper hit now because if something doesn't sell in two weeks Walmart wants its shelf space back. I think it's tough. My personal opinion is I don't think that Bethesda will make a game that's like a Fallout 3. I had an argument on some forum recently and said that having another Fallout game in another way of playing would be great. I don't think Interplay's game--I haven't played it so I can't say--but the reviews weren't that great. Would I like to make another Fallout? Yes, but I don't go out and search for it. "

made me think that Hey. What about making an RPG Contruction set and letting the fallout fans create their own adventures? Imagine a MMORPG...which really is nothing like MMO. But basically a BBS of quest scripts for a great engine (such as 1 developed by Troika)

And calling it IanOut lol?

Ya that sounds like a good idea, however I'm not good at all nor do I know what I'm doing when it comes to modding and such lol.

I bet even a repackaged fallout2 editor with a useable tileset selector would sell. Starcraft map editor style. I havent looked at Ianout, I thought it was a mod, and not an editor. or is this "the shine of the sparkling gem of hate again"

I'm giving this one chance before it gets vatted. There already is a FO editor out, there is also IanOut, and the reason for mentioning MMORPGs seems to be non-existant in your post.

A 3D RPG developer kit packaged to be a tool for a fan community such as our glittering fortress. Why should developers spend time on making an engine, then tools to make a game, then write stories, and tweak gameplay...when there is a growing number of people like us who would enjoy just the package of the engine and polished tools.

In turn this would spawn a massive online community who could support the publishers of the tools to create extra relevant features. Like say multiplayer support for the engine or better GUI. I wouldn't mind subscribing to that. How about you?

>I apologize for not being clear and overlooking the great efforts of the Fallout MODs
