As a promotion for the digital retailing service, which is rebranding and offering newer and independent titles, GOG.com is offering Fallout for free for the next 48 hours for new and existing users.

The servers are, naturally, overloaded right now, but log in or register at some point in the next two days to add it to your library and get a free copy, even if it's only to back up your existing one.

Thanks for the heads up! I already own the game but what the hell, a nice little addition to my GOG collection.

I've owned it on GOG pretty much since the moment it was available. Have copies of it on an external HD. Whenever I want to replay, I install my GOG copies, so I can leave be my various big box copies (I own jewel case CDs of F1/F2 twice since I had to replace my big boxes once, and also own the Radioactive edition of 1, 2 and Tactics).

Thanks. I already own it but i'll urge my friends who don't to pick it up now.

Same here. Some of my friends want to try it out for themselfs. But havn't bought it.

Good timing aswell since they said that a few days ago. So they won't have the excuse not to play it now.

I never lost a game in my whole life.

I tend to lose shit like that when I move. It has happened a few times. Plus I always lose the CD keys and other bullshit like that.

I may have to make a GOG account now. Fallout 1 is the only one I don't own currently.

Don't forget to tell them where to get their mods. NMA is already seeing a huge spike in traffic from GOG.com's sticky with links to NMA's patches and mods.

Oh yeah! Well I got the Fallout's demo CD. Beat that! 8-)

Any who has d/l'd know if it's a DRM copy that will only work for a week etc? (Like they're doing on steam with the SWTOR free weekend trials)

Nope. If you unlock it and add it to your library within the 48 hours, it's yours forever on GOG.com. You can download their installation file, which is DRM-free, as a backup if you fear the site might go down.

Wow, after playing Jagged Alliance 2 the combat in this game is wimpy. And I still fear open spaces and stick to buildings.

Anyways, this is awesome. Might as well create a few accounts, just in case :)

GOG is by far the best game download shop on the net, this just confirms it, yet again. It is fun reading stuff by people playing for first time thanks to GOG.

This is a good use of promotion for GOG - I can't imagine on any normal day that they would sell more than a handful of copies of Fallout 1, and at 5 bucks each...anyway that's not much money to lose. Giving the game away probably attracted a few thousands extra users. They should try the same thing for a few other games. I'm not sure how the copy write owners (Interplay) benefit from this though.
