I really would like to see a Fallout FPS, more like Thief or Halflife than Quake, i think it would be good anyway...

WHL

I know this, I want a fully fledged fallout FPS. But I don't own Half Life so I cant play WHL.

RE: WHL

Are you nuts?! Go buy Half-life its an awsome game and has lots of cool mods.

Bad idea. You can never reproduce the depth of an RPG through a FPS. If you want to play a FPS with Fallout weapons (which is all a Fallout FPS would be), go play WHL.

If you REALLY want to know why it is a bad idea, read some of the old posts on the Fo3 board with Alicia Carmen (I think that's her name). There was a huge argument over it a long time ago.

Half-Life and UT have the most mods I've ever seen for any FPS....

Most of them good.

1-Yes you can! Fallout FPS might not sell as good as Quake 2 or Unreal Tournament, but it is possible, you only have to go beyond every FPS that was created till this day (HalfLife and Thief including) in applying RPG elements.

2-I couldn't find no such topic, Xotor. I'll try again, but...

There was NO post-nuclear FPS in gaming history (at least no popular ones), or 'post-nuclearity' was masked by stuff like aliens, robots and dictators in typical pop-style dressup. I think it's worth a try to make one.

He never said he wanted it to reproduce the depth of the RPG. And I too would like to see a single player Half-Life mod for fallout. Seems fun to me :-)

Hmmh, I've changed my mind a bit since then :-)

And what about...

[font size=1" color="#FF0000]LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-00 AT 11:58PM (GMT)[p]The Elder Scrolls: Fallout

Out of joke, nobody can't tell me that Daggerfall or Arena aren't true RPGs, they ARE and they kick 8 thousand billon asses. And they're first person games, though.

But in the other hand, I don't really see Fallout as being in first person. I think I wouldn't like it... It would not be Fallout, the Fallout we all know.

And about a Fallout FPS, trust me, if FT:BOS sells a moderate sum of copies, in less than a year you will see a pure-action FPS or TPS (third person shooter) with incredibly graphics of 2100x1500 and 64bits color depth with Dolby 5.1 sound support. Plus amazing weapons from a spear to a last-tech Hyper Gauss Rifle Mark 5, and lots of level to annihilate everything that is currently moving... or not!

Oh... I forgot something...

We can't forget the amazing Multiplayer capabilities!! 128 players on over 800 levels specially prepared for killing your friends!! Features includes: Deathmatch, Weird Deathmatch Variation 1, Weird Deathmatch Variation 2, Weird Deathmatch Variation 3 and the spectacular Capture The Sacred Vault 13 Suit with lots of new variations over the original ones!!!

I don't care about a MOD for a game like Half-Life, I just don't want an official one from Interplay.

Hey I remember Arena. Yeah it was fun I must admit. However it was incredibly easy to win over in combat, just move forward, swing, and jump back. The same tactics could be employed in the Eye of the Beholder series.

There was one major flaw in the Arena engine. It never accounted the level of the player and what area of the game he was in when generating treasure in chests. I remember finding a +5 wristband (if I remember correctly), which was worth about $50,000 or something in the first chest I found. I also found some of the most expesive Dikatanas and mega armor and everything. It was possible to be fully equipped after the first area.

Hey, do you have any idea where I could get Arena? I only remember playing it in the 486 days about five years back. I'd like to take a stab (literally)at that game again.

Deus Ex

Another good FPRPG (First-person RPG) is Deus Ex, with its multiple endings and 32bit graphics it is great (according to the person next to me anyway) so, who has played it and what do they think of it. And I personally do think that you can pull off an FPRPG. But this Fallout FPS does not neccesarily have to be an RPG or an Action Game, having a First person perspective and 3d graphics could mean any game, and would even give more realism in a tactical game.

I *do* think Fo3 should employ a 3D view from the character's eyes for aimed shots. Just because the target has an arm doesn't mean it is visible to get shot. LOS (line of sight) should also be truly 3D.

RE: Oh yeah, Arena..

It was bad enough getting a new copy of Daggerfall but getting Arena in the shops would probably be nigh on impossible.

I think you can order it online from bethesdas site still but I'm not sure.

Here you have:

http://trojanrpg.cjb.net/

Full versions of Arena and Daggerfall. I hope they're still up cause I downloaded them 1 year ago. They have HUNDREDS of (old=true) RPGs, you will love that site...

No cracks needed neither for arena and daggerfall. I would tell you, play Daggerfall, it's much better than Arena.

The bad thing about these games, like Xotor said, they're loaded with bugs... I almost started to think that they actually programmed those bugs in purpose ;)))
Don't forget to download the patch!

Damn...

Link doesn't work. Have any others? I think all software should have to have its source code released after five years it was created if it doesn't contain any real value that can be obtained from it anymore (like trade secrets or old software that makes up the bulk of the code for the new one). Kind of like the idSoftware policy of releasing source code a year or two after the game is released simply for the fact that it really doesn't earn them much money anymore.

Mind posting a copy *somewhere*? I'll find a crack for it somewhere, I always do. I've got cracks, key/serial generators, etc. for practically all the software I have.

Ever search http://astalavista.box.sk/ ?

RE: Deus Ex

ahh so do you mean like in dungeon keeper 2 where you could go down to eye level and see everthing?
well i think that would be okay. i just liek the fact that i dont need a goddamn 3d accelartor to play a damn game that shouldnt be hinged on graphics.

Well the 3D accelerator can also be used for faster 2D graphics too. Take for example PS:T, it uses hardware acceleration to speed up sprite blitting and mirroring.

By the time Fo3 comes out the 3D card it'll require will cost less than 30 bucks and it will be standard for all systems to have one with at least 64 megs.

Hell, by the end of the year or so, IBM plans on having 100 gig hard drives sell for $100. Progress drops prices and before you know it these 3D graphics we see now will be pathetic compared to what we see then. I look forward to seeing actual focusing in games so some areas are actually blurred and not super-crisp images at 70 miles.

What would be really cool is if they develope monitors where the program can specify what polarity of light can come out of it so you can see 3D with dual polarized lenses. Think of the possibilities!
