Almost forgot this in the media rush of New Vegas today; Bethesda sent out a fact sheet for the game earlier today.
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Developer: Obsidian Entertainment
Release Date: Fall 2010
Platform: Xbox 360 / PLAYSTATION 3 systems, Games for Windows
Genre: Post Nuclear Role-Playing
Description: Welcome to Vegas. New Vegas.

It’s the kind of town where you dig your own grave prior to being shot in the head and left for dead…and that’s before things really get ugly. It’s a town of dreamers and desperados being torn apart by warring factions vying for complete control of this desert oasis. It’s a place where the right kind of person with the right kind of weaponry can really make a name for themselves, and make more than an enemy or two along the way.

As you battle your way across the heat-blasted Mojave Wasteland, the colossal Hoover Dam, and the neon drenched Vegas Strip, you’ll be introduced to a colorful cast of characters, power-hungry factions, special weapons, mutated creatures and much more. Choose sides in the upcoming war or declare “winner takes all” and crown yourself the King of New Vegas in this follow-up to the 2008 videogame of the year, Fallout 3.

Enjoy your stay.

Key Features:

• Feel the Heat in New Vegas! Not even nuclear fallout could slow the hustle of Sin City. Explore the vast expanses of the desert wastelands – from the small towns dotting the Mojave Wasteland to the bright lights of the New Vegas strip. See the Great Southwest as could only be imagined in Fallout.

• Feuding Factions, Colorful Characters and a Host of Hostiles! A war is brewing between rival factions with consequences that will change the lives of all the inhabitants of New Vegas. The choices you make will bring you into contact with countless characters, creatures, allies, and foes, and determine the final explosive outcome of this epic power struggle.

• New Systems! Enjoy new additions to Fallout: New Vegas such as a Companion Wheel that streamlines directing your companions, a Reputation System that tracks the consequences of your actions, and the aptly titled Hardcore Mode to separate the meek from the mighty. Special melee combat moves have been added to bring new meaning to the phrase “up close and personal”. Use V.A.T.S. to pause time in combat, target specific enemy body parts and queue up attacks, or get right to the action using the finely-tuned real-time combat mechanics.

• An Arsenal of Shiny New Guns! With double the amount of weapons found in Fallout 3, you’ll have more than enough new and exciting ways to deal with the threats of the wasteland and the locals. In addition, Vault-Tec engineers have devised a new weapons configuration system that lets you tinker with your toys and see the modifications you make in real time.

• Let it Ride! In a huge, open world with unlimited options you can see the sights, choose sides, or go it alone. Peacemaker or Hard Case, House Rules, or the Wild Card - it’s all in how you play the game.

You know, I just had a terrible thought, and it's not like I want to play F:NV for any other reason then it's a Fallout game made by some of the original crafters, but - You guys don't suppose the reason that F:NV has "double the weapons" of F3 is because they're counting the myriad number of weapon modification combinations as individual weapons, do you?

I mean, it's not like weapons are more important than the story and atmosphere, but... They're kind of a huge part, and if every weapon has at least four incarnations and they each count as an individual weapon, then that would actually mean F:NV has HALF of the weapons of F3. I wouldn't put it past Bethesda's marketing juggernaut, but hopefully J.E. isn't lying to us.

I doubt that's what they're thinking. THat would end up smacking them hard in the fase. Besides, after saying double the amount of weapons, they add that you can modify them.

Like the 500 endings in FO3?

Touché.

Of course, I might be wrong, but I'd rather hope for the best than be miserable about the worst.

Agreed, I thought the exact same thing when I read it. Double the weapons? You mean twice as many base weapons or twice as many weapons including modified ones. The wording seems to suggest that the mods are on top of the extra weapons but I wouldn't say for sure. It really all depends on how many weapons they reuse from Fallout 3 given that they have clearly created some new weapons.

As has been stated, Bethesda has a crap track record when it comes to this, though last time it was a lot easier to figure out that they were full of shit than this time, since they explained how the endings worked.

I'm pretty sure they'll reuse all the base weapons from FO3 aside from the craftable ones and perhaps some high-end ones like the Fatman or Tesla Cannon.

No, they didn't. We thought that they were counting permutations of the ending narration, like in Fallout 1 and 2, while in fact they counted things like your gender and race in the end slideshow.

I find it hysterical how none of the media that hyped the original "over 500 endings!" soundbite went back to call Bethesda on their bullshit. Typical.

Psst, if you don't talk about it, it never happened.

Oh shit, that's right. I forgot about the gender and race crap.

Unfortunately I'd expect no different from the current gaming press. Still, you'd think that at least one chap would have brought it up in a review...

Most reviewers probably didn't bother playing the game to the ending before writing their reviews.

They rarely do, especially with larger games. We know that all of the prerelease reviews had what, 12 hours with the game in a nice hotel with a Bethesda representative there to help them out.

It would be very stupid on their part. The amount of weapons was one of the things the FO3 fans liked the most. If they really counted all the modifications that would mean that NV has around 2/3 (if not less) of the weapons FO3 had.
