Fallout: New Vegas Patch 1.3 released for PC

It's not really dumbing it down it's just making it easier. Cazadors were overpowered but I'd still prefer a challenge to a simple walk in the park. :|

WHat did they do to nerf them? They reduced the damage output or gave them less HP? or both?

They reduced the game radius a Cazador needs to be for starting the sting attack.

They need to be really close to you now, pratically in your face to be able to do it.
The worst part is this not only makes them more easy to kill, but much more easy to avoid the stinging itself, even if they are close enough.

BTW, I reverted the change in the patch (from 4.000 game units to the old 10.000 game units): http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=41570

I uploaded two pics if you people want to know the difference.

Oh it does that.

I thought it just lowered their awareness since they can spot you two counties over most of the time.

I don't see why this was needed. These things besides the 3 rare Super Deathclaws are like the only threat in the game.

Tested the .223 Pistol yesterday. With AP ammo (and Cowboy-Perk, don't know if it's affected by that), it can now blast away stuff very effective. I've tested it on some robots and fiends and it just needed a few hits to get them down. Wasn't like that before.

On the other hand, the Service Rifle feels weaker to me now. I don't do any real damage with it anymore, even with AP ammo.

Also I've noticed that my game is freezing again. This issue I could fix before with setting the sound hardware acceleration to very low, but now it doesn't seem to work anymore. Can't say for sure if it's the patch or the new windows xp that I've installed last month though...

In any case, the freezes are really annoying, because I have to make a hard reset then and I hate it to restart my computer. And I don't want to buy a different sound card, especially because I don't even know if this would affect the problem...

/Edit: Also the performance was worse first, so I've updated my graphic drivers. Now the performance is pretty good, but I notived that the game always crashs as soon as a glowing ghoul is performing their magic wall of radiation. Great. Especially because I am in the middle of Vault 34 with glowing ghouls all around me. That's a game in it's own now... Restart game, try to kill them before they attack, restart game, try to kill them before they attack...

/Edit²: And now the game had frozen my system again. God damnit, fuck this shit. And why the hell there is no crash report anyway. How can a game that is crashing so often not have a crash report output in some text file...

It's because the base DAM and crit hit was lowered from 20 to 18, it's basically 1 point lower than the 10mm SMG.
10mm SMG at the beginning is a good weapon, but after level 15 it loses some ground, there are better weapons to use.

I noticed this too, but the weapon fires faster now, you only need more shots to do the same damage.
I've found this way better, but this is my opinion.
That's why I always choose This Machine over Brush Gun, my aim sucks big time.

That's also the reason when playing a guns courier my ST are usually 8 or above, I like big guns, since you don't need to aim when using Miniguns, LMG, Automatic Rifle, etc.
Just Point and Click, like the achievement says.

I'm having a problem that is very annoying after installing the patch, every time I enter Camp McCarran my game freezes.
There are random freezes in the Wasteland, but this is the only location where this happens.
I created this playthrough for HH, since it's a mix of melee/unarmed, with guns and explosives (and high survival and speech).

Everytime I install a new patch my current playthrough goes down the drain and I need to start a new one, everytime.
This is frustrating.

The Service rifle barely did any damage before the patch, it just wasn't a very good weapon.

Also I never use SMGs since because of the DT system having a high DPS is useless, plus they take a lot of ammo. They really need to do something to make SMGs more effective as in theory they should be more powerful than rifles.

You really have to try the "new" 12.7 SMG.

They didn't touched the weapon DAM or crit hit, BTW, only the spread and weapon CND.

Cazadors can honestly suck it, if you ask me.

Also, human NPC's are indirectly buffed, since they use most of the buffed weapons. Except for unique items, ofc

I have noticed that humans seem to be more of a threat now, especially Powder Gangers. This latest patch might actually give you a reason to help the Gangers slaughter Goodsprings now.

True, and guns in general are more effective, and that means not only your guns, but your foes guns too.

Yeah, the Cazador nerf makes me sad, but weapons being more effective is a double-edged sword as NPCs use them too. Humans with shotguns are now a very real threat at close range, and NCR troopers fire their Service Rifles so fast (and with pinpoint accuracy as I see it, as opposed to automatic weapons that miss all the time) that they are very much capable of wasting you early on. Seem like Jackal raiders also all get explosive weapons later on, quite some artillery fireworks.

Only balance concerns left imo is making the Legion less of a joke with more powerful ranged weapons and increasing Power Armor's DT, because it's friggin Power Armor and a riot vest (Ranger Armor) protects almost just as much.

Actually is the opposite, in real life rifles are more powerfull than SMGs, while SMGs fire faster.
SMGs are designed to combine the use of pistol cartridges with the automatic fire of a machine gun.

This doesn't mean they are "weak", but comparing SMGs with rifles is the same of comparing cars with motorcycles.

I don't think it matters how much 'Power' a gun has, if you get hit with a couple bullets you're going down. So in theory a SMG would be better close range simply because it can fire a lot faster.

Some People can take a couple 9mms and keep on trucking. Sure they might die in a couple hours.

Hit'em with a 45. somebody is going down.

But they're sure as hell not going to keep standing and firing at you without any reaction as we see in New Vegas, especially not after being filled with a dozen rounds from an SMG.

You'd be surprised.

Look at the people that walk around with bullets in their head for years and never remember getting shot.

And then some people with a Adrenaline high can keep going.

Also Drugs. a Famous Episode of Cops involved a Barber shooting some guy in the gut with a 44. Mag, Turns out the guy was high on PCP or something and it took 9 or so cops to bring him down.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/InstantDeathBullet

"In real life, being fatally shot almost always leaves the victim the option of 1-2 minutes of essentially normal activity before they finally fall unconscious. In fact, it is not uncommon for the victim to fail to realize they have been shot. Police trainers report that many officers are hurt or killed when their target fails to instantly fall down when shot, "like they do on television," but instead retaliates. (Heck, this is one of the underlying reasons behind the "stopping power" debate in firearms/ballistics circles.) "

There's a difference between one bullet and several though. If you get shot a dozen times with an SMG then there's no way you're going to be able to retaliate, that's why an SMG should be theoretically more powerful at close range than a rifle. In the game however they just seem like a waste of ammo.
