Fallout: New Vegas patch coming out very soon

I was under the impression that the "patches" will be like with Obli ... I mean Fallout 3 where only a new patch was released to "updated" it with the next DLC instead of fixing any bugs.

Well, I'd suggest disabusing yourself of that cynical view 'cause it's disconnected from reality.

They actually bugged VATS with the Operation Anchorage patch and never fixed it

He's not wrong actually, if you read the last few patches for Fallout 3 they pretty much just add achievements for the DLCs and a few minor things.
Heck they didn't even fix what the previous patches had broken.

Yeah, it is harrowingly depressing. I was really more impressed that IGN published an article that wasn't written by a four year old. And a Fallout one at that.

There are some good points though. I think his discussion of balancing the urgency of the main quest with the immediacy of the side quests is valid.

Obsidian is not Bethesda and New Vegas has more egregious show stopping bugs than Fallout 3 did at this stage in its release (freezing issues, data based leveling issues for companions and strip access issues).

That said, New Vegas is far more complex in underlying structure so it's par for the course, in my opinion.

well I think we should wait to see what the patch will change.

Fact is that Vegas has a lot of bugs some from Fallou 3 and a lot of new ones.

It does? In terms of bugginess it works way better than FO3 on the PS3. It freezes more often but otherwise is way more polished.
Only frozen once on PC since the last patch and even then I think it was a stutter that took a little long :?

I cant coment on that fortunately as Fallout vegas worked for me like a charm, No issues (almost) and I had only with a second game to use "hacks" (console) because in some vault the security system is tied to Mr. House for some reason so when the system attacks you which is part of a quest you loose ... of course reputation with House. LUckily with console commands I was able to resurrect the needed persons and also reset the House reputation to zero again. So no biggy.

But I heard from many others that (even on the Xbox) the game seems to have quite some issues where a friend was not able to solve the Khan quests in a satisfying way beacuse he did something else prior to the quest but which should have no relevance. IT seems the game is full of it next to the fallout 3 typical glitches (flying rubber scorpions anyone ?).

I dont know if the game is broken. But its definetly one of those that has a bit more bugs then usual. Not to much for a Obsidian game though, so much is true :P

I spent a lot of time on forums back when Fallout 3 came out and I've spent a lot of time on forums now. From what I've seen, more people are complaining of show stopping bugs a month after release than anything I saw for FO3. For example, I never saw anybody say they couldn't enter D.C. wearing a certain hat without the game freezing.

That said, I don't doubt many can play this game without a hitch. I know several people who claim to have played for 40 hours before even their first freeze (and the freezing is more of an engine issue anyhow, I believe). I'm just saying it's hard to judge either title from first hand experience. However, going to websites like Team Xbox and digging through their old threads (I'm an economist/sociologist by trade so these social dynamics interest me) I'm not seeing the same prevalence of complaints.

In the end, compare the patch notes released tomorrow against the patch notes released at a relatively similar time period for Fallout 3. It's not fool proof, but my memory of FO3's bugs were more physics.

Either way, it just makes more sense that New Vegas would have more bugs --> they have less experience with the engine and they did a fuck ton more to the game's underlying structure. More complexity (factions, dialog system, crafting systems, etc) = more chance for things to break. I still applaud the effort and love the game.

FO3 also had leveling issues. You know, like that bug where you max all skills out before the next level and can't leave the lvl-up window

I dont think the difference in bugs between Vegas and Fallout 3 have been that big. I could not even say which game had more since both games "worked" for me (more or less) well enough to play them and the number of glitches feelt same for me.

PS3 update was available this evening. Does balance out a few things and adds some nice UI touches. However, it seems to lock up EVEN MORE now :(

I got the PS3 patch tonight here are a few things I noticed:

The bug where Veronica freezes after her quest is fixed, also she gains hit points.
The various safehouses are full loot like harder to find armor and weapons.
Rachel is available to talk to after you finish her quest allowing you to finish other Khan quests
Old Cowboy Hat bug is fixed
DT on energy ammo. Plasma Defender and Multiplas use less ammo.
Companions immediately disappear when you tell them to go to Lucky 38, instead of walking away (my guess is this should prevent them from getting lost on the way back)
Active companions are marked on your map.
Some of the recipes have changed, Hydra requires only one Cave Fungus now, and some of the poisons are different I think too.
