Fallout: New Vegas Playstation Blog Q&A

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
Bethesda's Senior Producer Jason Bergman took some time to answer some fan questions on Sony's Playstation Blog. Some of them are downright inane, but there are still interesting bits like this:
Will there be any Vaults to explore in New Vegas? (thanks @LewJ1196)

Yes there are! We have five different Vaults in the game. They serve as unique dungeons, and depending on what path you follow through the main storyline, you may have to venture into one of them to retrieve something.

Also, Game Informer Executive Director Andrew Reiner informs us that he really can tackle things differently on a second playthrough in Fallout: New Vegas on twitter.

Spotted on the Obsidian Entertainment boards.

I love that pic, very well done.

As I've said before, more than 3 Vaults in 1 regions seems like overkill, but whatever, if they are well designed then I'll have fun with what they offer. Reading that depending on the player's decisions, a certain object will need to be found in different Vaults is nice. Suggests that there are dynamic components in the main quest.

What is this big white thingy on that concept art?

i can't find any legitimate pictures of the whole area, but i assume that is the airport. it's sort of like a smooth wave like building. this should sorta help:

I forsee a lot of reused bits from magaton at the air port, hopefully they reskined them thought. It'll be kind of nice to see what the whole plane looks like.

Beside one broken up plane, there wasn't much in the Megaton set, that could be reused for a real airport.

What can you tell us about the new Hardcore Mode?

When it’s on, players will have to eat, sleep, and drink water every day. In addition, ammo has weight, companions can die, Stimpaks heal over time, and damaged limbs can only be healed with a Doctor’s Bag.

So does that mean with Hardcore Mode off, companions are invincible or just go unconscious or something?

Man, you need that risk and emotional attachment.

WOW that comment is SUCH a tease...I am like dying here how anxious I am to get my hands on this GAME!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I want it NOW!

If Kotor2 is some kind of indication then ... yeah its not far away to assume that on the "not-sissy" modes (in other words not hardcore mode) the companions will just fall asleep when they loost all their HP. I really dont know why they started with this absolute crap in RPGs to see your companions "fall down" and getting all their health back once the fight is over uuuh yeah just like the auto-healing in shooters, makes everything soooooooohooo great

Fair enough then, I was going to play it in Hardcore Mode in any case. Interesting design choice, I suppose that way all companions will receive an ending slide and will only die if scripted in 'sissy' mode. If it works narratively then good.

With Fallout you really need that fear in wanting to protect and keep your companions alive. Oh dear that time when I accidentally killed Katja with a gatling gun burst and couldn't reload as my last save was hours ago...and when Marcus annihilated all of us in one turn, lol.

With FO3 I was obsessed with keeping Dogmeat alive and ultimately had to tell him to stay home when it got too tough for him. Then they brought out the Puppies! perk which just spoilt it.

I don't think that they will use stuff from Megaton, but from Broken Steel for sure.
