ResumePlay brings us one more preview to add to the list (thanks GameBanshee).
Almost immediately after you start your journey -- after Doc Mitchell sets you off-- you meet your new best friend, Sunny Smiles. After meeting up with Sunny over at the Prospector Saloon she begins to show you around town giving you the chance to interact with the many residents and local wildlife in Goodsprings. Obsidian has confirmed that there will be gambling related mini-games implemented in New Vegas. So don’t be surprised to find gamblers and loan sharks congregating in the local saloon. Upon your exploration of the town you notice that the people range from friendly to just down right mean, and you find the mean ones pretty fast. The combat system in the game is very similar to that of Fallout 3, but now players have the choice to attach add-ons to their weapons and customize all of your guns to your heart’s content. You can also implement specialized bullets into your weapons; such as the pierce rounds that are effective against armor, and heavy slugs for your shotguns.
Additionally, Bethesda announced, to no one's surprise, that Fallout: New Vegas will be on display at E3, "hands-on" according to a company spokesman's comments to CVG.
We're excited to announce that in addition to offering hands-on time with Brink, a ground breaking shooter being developed at Splash Damage, Fallout: New Vegas, the next chapter in the blockbuster Fallout franchise being developed at Obsidian Entertainment, and Hunted, a third-person co-op fantasy action game being developed at inXile Entertainment, we'll also be showing off a new presentation of RAGE, the new first-person shooter being developed by id Software!

It's hillarious, watching the Elder Scrolls fans lines up under that announcement hoping and praying for news.

"Please sir, may I have some more?"

Well now you're being mean. I like The Elder Scrolls series. Granted, Oblivion was a bit of a disappointment that I had to put a decent number of mods into to make it good, but I like them. I played Daggerfall and Arena after they got released for free and had a good time. However, they shouldn't get their hopes up. BethSoft said it isn't announcing anything new at E3.

Anyway, I'm wondering how they'll implement alternate ammo. Will it be that you can switch them on the fly through hitting a key or pressing a button, or will it be that you just use the stronger ammo until you run out?

Most probably something similar to Deus Ex, go into the inventory screen (the Pipboy in this case) and choose your ammo type.
Maybe the game will play a reload animation after you change ammo to balance the time-freezing feature of the Pipboy a bit.

I don't think it will be as smooth as in normal FPS though, considering that they have to make a control system that works for consoles too.

I figure they could just make it so you can double-tap the reload button to change the ammo on consoles.

Possible yeah. Honestly I don't care much about the console control scheme, I'd personally never play that type of game on console.

So Rage isn't cancelled yet?

Rage won't be canceled. It will just end up being the first id game without a Linux client, mod tools, or a source code release in a few years...

Probably change ammo types inside the "weapon mod kits" screen. Perhaps change barrels to use different types. Who knoes.

Well the mods that already do ammo types just make it so you select them in your inventory though a way to do this without going into the inventory would be nice.

@bethblog Oblivion, DOOM and Fallout 3 make MSN's top 50 games of all time. http://bit.ly/cmMdOW

the only thing funnier than Oblivion and Fallout 3 making a top 50 games list, is Bethesda mentioning DOOM as if they're somehow involved with its brilliance. such is the power of a dollar.

What? They're buddies with id. It's not like they are going, "We made DOOM you insolent faggots! Buy our products you worthless shits!" You're overreacting.

Dedicated key to change ammo, lol. You make it sound like F3 was designed to run on a PC! ;)

Here's how you'll switch ammo. You'll invoke the pipboy using TAB and navigate to the weapons page, using the keyboard and F-keys because it's easier to navigate with the keyboard, but you'll use the mouse to click on the weapon because that's actually harder with the keyboard, and then click on the right ammo because that's the only way to do that. Then you'll dismiss the pipboy with escape key, no wait that doesn't work, you'll remember that you have to dismiss it with the same button (sorry, key!) that invoked it, which was TAB. Right. And presto, different ammo.

Or maybe they'll be cool and let you map a key to it. Cautious optimism!
