Fallout 2 mod Fallout Sonora 1.15 and Sonora Dayglow 1.15 Vanilla Translation

It has come to my attention that the 1.14 release of Fallout Sonora is being quietly updated by Nevada Band. So the link from their website is evolving in time, moving from 1.14, through multiple 1.14+ versions (unnamed) and will eventually become 1.15

That's great and all, however, it means that applying my translation to the '1.14' version as it is now offered on their site will result in a few 'error' messages (because Russian dialogue has been added in a number of places, dialogue which the original 1.14 release didn't contain)

I have now compared all the changes in the original 1.14 release, and the current 1.14+ release, and have worked these into the next version of the translation.

Release 1.02 can be found at the Fallout Sonora website, and at the moddb.com. Changelog can be found here.

The next release will likely be a full English Version, and no longer rely on installing the Russian version first.

Yeah, it's correct, what I meant it's that perhaps it could be changed to agave syrup instead of juice, so it's clear they're the same item in case the player is looking for it, but it's your call
Also, did the update only change those files in your changelog? I'll get on updating them right now

Also, those are the only files (RCRngMap.msg, AFGold.msg, and SCBoss.msg) that contain dialogue changes. However, there are multiple mexican/spanish speakers that have their scripts changed, which effects what they 'say'. Nevada Band implemented the same approach for translated 'Spanish' combat taunts that I did. However, my implementation is more nuanced, so there is no need to make any changes, and it is better to let my scripts overwrite theirs (mine has more 'spanish' speaking types).
 
The hi-res stuff doesn't seem to work when using the CE version of the exe. Would really like access to the resolution settings, especially windowed mode. Any tricks here?

I had a problem with item(s) descriptions, in my current playthrough of 'FO:S US version' (1.01), for all the items included in the Dayglow expansion.
I had to manually edit the 'pro_item' file and replace all the lines with '-DLC' (I took the description for those items from one of the older translation releases, instead of using the Russian's ones), otherwise humanoids would display '*critter's name* reloads the -DLC.' whenever they need to reload their weapons, and the player couldn't read about those items in their inventory.

@Zaius238 what version of Fallout Sonora are you using? Fallout 2 CE or Foxx rebuild? From your description it is obvious that the vanilla pro_item.msg was being used, rather than the one from the DLC. Maybe I made a mistake in building the release for 1.01? I can't check that now, as the build folders I use are already over written with 1.02 - checking those now I can see the issue does not exist in 1.02

It is also possible that when updating you updated with a vanilla translation version, rather than the vanilla + DLC version.
Since we are on 1.02 now, use that and see if the issue is resolved.

I'm positive that I downloaded the correct edition, for players that installed both the base game & expansion.
I continue using 'Fallout 2 Community Edition' to play 'Fallout: Sonora'.
I noticed some slightly different responses from a few characters in the Dayglow expansion, so it seemed that the update to 1.01 went smoothly. Then this erroneous behavior occurred, in my playthrough.

I can confirm that this isn't a thing anymore, having just tested your new update! Nice!
 
Well, that's one more reason to go to a single, English version of the mod. Having to maintain 3 different versions of the translation means 3x the chance of a mistake being made by me somewhere in the update procedure. The likelihood of this happening will also increase with time, as updates reduce in frequency, and my familiarity with the process lessens.

Good to hear that 1.02 solves the issue! Just carry on then!

In dialogue, so in NCHimadr it's 'I see you know how to bargain. Alright, if you need agave syrup, come to me.' so it reflects the item name in pro_item rather than calling it juice
Also, thanks, I implemented the changes yesterday. I wonder what they'll add in 1.15; there's still some slots for items in pro_item, so maybe this or some changes to NPC's? I also liked they added lines for mutants, when I was translating that file I thought it made no sense that Dixon didn't say anything about you being a mutant

There's a small typo in VCMadre line 251: 'whereever'

Ahh, got it. 100% the way to go. I have been trying to make sure that all item names really closely or perfectly match the item name in pro_item.msg. Will make this correct. Looking in game Agave Juice is being bandied about everywhere, but to be correct, it should likely all change to agave syrup. I will check this and make it right.

There is a list of things on the Nuclear City forum. I thought it kind of odd that they added in a 'dumb' path in the ranger map quest. But the addition to the conversation with Dixon is good. Other stuff is mostly bug fixes, and improvements to the Spanish trait. They added in a target image for power armor too I believe.

I did try to reach out to offer my script fixes, maybe for their next update, but I wasn't able to reach them. Maybe I'll have to offer a Russian version of the 'script patch' improvements for all the Russian players!

@OnlyALad , how weird is it for people to be addressing a woman as 'Amigo'? Because I just noticed that there are dozens of cases where an NPC would address a female PC as 'amigo' - there's no dual line for feminine/masculine in the script. It seems to me that even average English speakers, especially Americans, would be aware of the mistake here.

I'm glad you and others are enjoying it! Sonora is so worth it.

It is quite useful listening to you voice the dialogues, as well as express your confusion on quest/dialogue points. I think there may be some regional differences in our English (for example 'start afresh' is totally the go to for me), however, not many, and the things you noticed mostly also sat the same with me. There are points in some dialogues where the translation/original Russian could be improved to smooth the overall mod.

An example is the use of the term 'mine' in Garage City. This term was used locally by the Garage City folk as local lingo for the ruins. A little confusing for a newcomer, but also, for a player, makes one wonder about the translation, even though it makes sense that they would have local lingo. Seeing your initial reaction led me to add a few more points where locals 'explain' the local lingo to the PC.

Anyway, I look forward to the next entry in your series!

It would be strange, as it should be "amiga" for a woman. It's like if I used "Thanks man/bro" with a girl.

I have used 'wey' sometimes, while it has a male connotation it can be used with women too. However, it's mexican slang, so it may not make too much sense with every instance of the word 'amigo' as characters with different backgrounds may use it, it's also informal

Perhaps just using "friend" or "pal" would be the way to go, there aren't many gender neutral words available. I personally will need to take the same path as the FO2 translation; make two separate folders for a male character and a female one, as the language used in some files in inherently gendered, like editor.msg

Yes, as I understood it. I went ahead and tweaked all the relevant scripts, so now all uses of 'amigo' toward the player in game will use amiga if the PC is female. This does mean about 30 dialogue files and scripts were affected.

'wey' sounds interesting. Nevertheless the 'gendering' scripting and dialogue will be in the next build.

Running the V1.02 of Sonora + Dayglow and running into this issue which is preventing me from progressing the Dayglow DLC. Had a few issues with the items displaying as "-DLC" or just "." but this is the first bug that has stopped progression. I tried a fresh 1.02 reinstall to see if it would fix the issue but it seems to be persisting so some help would be awesome. Also thanks for this awesome translation really glad to finally be playing Sonora
 
I'm looking into this now.

Are you running the Fallout 2 CE version, or Foxx's repack?
