Fallout Tactics... What's wrong with it?

Still Mildly Glowing
Sorry if this is the wrong section, didn't spotted a FOT discussion forum.

But why FOT is not popular here? I think it's a great game... sure:

[spoiler:20c6c33a7a]robots as final enemies were a huge disapointment, I always thought robots were lame...[/spoiler:20c6c33a7a]

But it's still a fun game, too bad I never had the chance to play it online...

I've played it through at least twice and I do enjoy it, but I feel like it was missing a few things that would have made it a much better game.

In no order:

1. More interaction with the townspeople (it is fallout, after all)

2. Better interaction with the environment, and not just being able to squat on top of a tower.

3. Too many weapons that were nearly but many were extremely rare. I love having lots of weapon choices, but not when I have 50 Ak-47s but 2 M-16s and Enfields, weird balance.

4. It wasn't really that fluid as a Real Time game, which is how I prefer to play with that many enemies. The movement seemed clunky, driving vehicles was a nightmare and a half, etc.

I enjoyed TicTacs a lot, its one of my personal favourite 'tactical' games, Its still fallout but it adds elements of RTS that I quite liked. Personally the fusion of Fallout setting and style + RTS which maintained the use of the core character statistics that the original FO games ran on..

so, I for one say Fallout: TickTock's Thumbs up!

I wish I could play online tough...

Bet it's awesome, too bad it require stuff like gamespy instead of having his own server.

I'm playing FOT as we speak. It's quite an entertaining game, but I still laugh my ass off when I see those furry talking deathclaws. I really liked the engine of FOT, the graphics have aged better than I thought they would and I really like the fluency of the SPECIAL system here, it's really rewarding and the fact that you get to chose the perks for your whole squad is brilliant. Some weapons and gadgets are nice additions to the FO universe: I really like the boom bugs, even though they aren't as efficient as one would like, and the environmental armour is neat too.
It's like a B-version of JA2 with the RT gameplay of Commandos 2. Yeah, I can dig that from time to time.
The story is trite shite, though.

I didnt really play it but i am thinking about getting it, it got a pretty good score on gamespot from both the reviewers and the community. And i hear you can actually pick a race, sounds pretty awesome.

I sure enjoyed FOT, it was real hard as I was playing on hard, hardcore mode and my computer was giving me errors every now and then so I could say it was hard.

But there was something else, the story was ... kinda straight forward and it was absolutely obvious what you have to do each mission, and the chaos from F1 and F2 is missing, although I liked it very much.

I think that can only be achieved with a mod.

Playing as a SM sounds interesting...

Yeah, you need a mod for that. But it's fun though, I once played as a Deathclaw.

Anyway, I really like Tictacs. Like said before, it's a nice tactical RPG in a Fallout-ish setting. It's probably not the best, but hey, I get to kill Super Mutants with a squad of 6 people armed with Gattlings and Gauss Rifles!

I only have one frustration that apparently can't be fixed with mods.

Once you get a vehicle, you can't bring it to missions.

What's the point of getting a tank where all the paths are blocked and you can only bring it back to the bunker so you never used again (if you bother to used it at all).

I wish I could bring the hummer to some missions... the funniest part of FOT is shooting things from a vehicle.

I use Gameranger for some games (Borderlands) and I noticed it found FOT installed on my HD but I haven't had the chance to try it out, since no one is online and I don't know anybody IRL who plays Tactics.

I did that as well. And yes, it's fun. You can tag Throwing for Deathclaws. :) Nothing beats a hairy Deathclaw tossing Boom Bugs at a Reaver before ripping his heart out.

Some missions are pretty cumbersome, though. :(

The best tactical game, IMO. Had a great combination of turn-based with some real-time elements, that I mostly liked. (I only played squad turn based, but used "end combat" often.)

I must say, I also liked it's "middle" brotherhood more than the west-coast one, and certainly more than the east-coast. Too bad, Tactics' story is most unlikely to get a continuation... (Well, I guess Beth could run out of "ideas" at some point, and try to use Tactics, but I doubt it will be good...)

EDIT: Also liked the hardcore mode very much. The inability to save during missions forced a more thought-through approach, not just rush-in-and-hope-the-dice-rolls-well. The xp bonus was good too, 'cause I like leveling up and don't like playing low-level characters. (Although by the end the extra levels were quite few... about 3, I think.)
The game crashed on me sometimes though, and those crashes were, obviously, extra-annoying...

What annoys me is that the maps "stutter" bad on my "new" computer, it's strange and I can't find a solution for this problem anywhere .

Some missions are pretty cumbersome, though. Sad

Boy do I remember rockfalls I got over 47 AK47s xD All of my squad members were over encumbered.

After I filled all the lockers with my stuff, I started recruiting members load them with stuff until they are immobile and recruit them back.

I started messing with the FOT editor.

At the moment the only thing I know how to do is change vehicles' colors and place them in the maps... :/

You might be pleased to know that there were around 400 games of FoT played on GameRanger this week. :)

Tactics had such a nice look about it…pixels over polygons for me. It’s a shame the maps were too large and not particularly well designed.

I love how Tactics looks. Anyone who says Fallouts just look greenish brown really hasn't played tactics.
Even have a soft spot for the furry deathclaws, aww they is so cute.
