Fallout Tycoon 2

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
Hey everybody! I'm new here, but I'd like to announce that I'm making a flash game called Fallout Tycoon 2. Basically its the sequel to fallout tycoon, the difference being that I think I can improve on a lot of the things that I found could be better in fallout tycoon, and my first(and only) language is english, so you can actually understand what is going on in the game. I am not affiliated with the guy who made Fallout tycoon 1.

What I have so far is the interface for when you select the location of your new town. Most of the games graphics are going to be taken from fallout 1, 2, and tactics. Aside form the location selector, I have a lot of design docs made up.

So this is the basic premis of Fallout Tycoon 2:
It is 2246, just after the events of Fallout 2. Unlike Fallout tycoon, the game wont focus on appeasing the 5 organisations, but rather trade with the surrounding cities. There will be many different types of resurces to produce and trade, such as handgus, assault rifles, handgun ammo, assault rifle ammo, corm, wheat, cabbage, computer parts, the ore and refined forms of various minerals such as iron and uranium, jet, and more. The world map will stretch from all of northern califronia in the north, to just past the maxican boarder in the south, and the west coat in the west, to halfway through utah in the east (All of california and nevada, as well as parts of utah and arizona).

The cities you trade with will include ALL the locations from fallout 1 and 2, as well as 7 extra communities in Nevadaa, Arisona, and Utah. Each location will have its own population and demand for different resources, as well as relationships between each other that range from ally to state of war. There are 4 types of terrain on the world map you can place you city on, they are coast, desert, mountain, and ruin. Each type of terrain will have a very large impact on gameplay.

There are many more features, like vaults, casinos, bars, sewers, and such. All of this stuff is listed in the design docs more completely, which I will release along with the game.

As soon as I get a website up for this game, I'll start posting screenshots of what I have so far.

Aye, teh be a nice-looking screenshot. I wish you luck in creating an entire game... Lookin' forward to it.

Thanks. After the flash version is done I *hope* to make a C++ made version. My C++ skills are good, but I still need to learn more about it before I can make a game on the level of Fallout Tycoon 2. I'd say It'll be done before the end of the year definitely, possibly by this summer. I should have a version that isn't complete but *playable* in a couple of months or sooner.

One big thing I saw wrong with Fallout Tycoon is that the tiles in the game were at a 45 degree angle from the camera, but the buildings were at more like a 27 degree angle, so the buildings never "lined up" with the roads. You know what I mean? So I'm going to make the tiles at the same angle as the buildings.

Hey guys, I need suggestions for the music I should use for the intro. I was thinking "What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong, but it was made in 1963, so its not *technically* 50's music.

Any suggestions?

Great balls of fire Jerry Lee Lewis, Moody River Pat Boone, Bluberry hill Fats Domino. All of these were big hits in the 50's

Also i have gotten Fallout Tycoon to start, but it never runs more than 5 minutes before crashing. It requires DivX software to run.

Cheers Thorgrimm

Wouldn't you be getting in trouble with copyright companies for using that music and distributing it freely over the web?

You'd think, but literally hundreds of people at newgrounds.com do the same thing every day with their flash movies and they don't get in trouble.

I think they are looking good, so i take it that the player can restore a building instead of having to completely rebuild it?

Yeah. Here's what I've written in the design docs:

Building restoration
Any ruin building can be “restored”. That is, you can select a casino, for instance, and have it restored to a working casino at half the cost of building a new one. Also, it costs 2/3 as much to zone housing on a tile containing a ruin building, but citizen satisfaction is only 80% of what it would be if they lived in an equivalent new building. All penalties for restored buildings are waived once you discover advanced building restoration. There is no penalty for using restored non-residential buildings, other than the fact that you can’t choose where they are built. You may select any building and manually restore it to the following buildings:
· Casino, although it will only be 2/3 the quality if you restore a building that wasn’t a casino already. Customer capacity is dependent on building size.
· Bar Customer capacity is dependent on building size.
· Hospital, although it will be 50% higher quality if you restore a building that was a hospital already. Patient capacity is dependent on building size.
· School
· Warehouse, although capacity is dependent on the buildings size.
· Nuclear power plant, can only be restored from an old nuclear power plant

Do you think I should put the whole design docs on the site?

You just made the front page Calculon00..

KICK ASS! I've never made the front page of anything! NMA rocks!

And the FT2 website exceeded its bandwidth for the hour to boot.

I'm looking into getting a better host than geocities.

That would sound good I think. Good luck!

I think "Van & Schenk - Aint We Got Fun" would be a good choice for song, though it's quite a bit older. If you like a song that's a lot newer, go for it, I wouldn't worry too much so long as it's got the feel (ie - don't use heavy metal music in it :p ).

Look forward to playing the game (sadly, I could never get the Tycoon game to work on mine :( ).

Wow, this has to be a record for the site. Not 18 minutes after the hour it uses up all its bandwidth for that hour. I'm starting to see why a lot of people I know hate geocities.
