Familiar Places Go Tactical

It had totally slipped my mind previously, but our reader Working's been, uh, toiling to re-create Fallout locations as Fallout Tactics maps and had sent us some screens of his work.

We anticipate the real deal, might prove useful for any Tactics campaign makers...

Thanks for the post, Morr. I currently have these locations: Vault 13 (circa FO1), Shady Sands, Vault 15 (circa FO1) and a partially completed Hub. I keep meaning to upload the actual map files for OTHERS to make campaigns out of. I dig making the maps and while I had planned a sort of "FO1/2 in Tactics" (imagine FO ala Rosencrantz and Guildenstern -- you'd be a character always on the peripheral of the original Vault Dweller's and Chosen One's adventure) I don't have the time nor patience to do anything beyond mapping. I'd emailed with the Dark Fall dude some, but then he fell off the face of the earth.

All of this, of course, in preparation for the 50/50 possibility that Bethseda's FO3 is going to be on par with that horrible PS2 console port Brotherhood of Steel.

Damn! Completely forgot about Junktown! That was a lot of fun. The temptation, of course, is to add a whole lot of crap that wasn't in the original. With the Khans raider camp, I added a basement dungeon, because it made some sense. I figured after you dispatched everyone top-side, you could venture downward to discover what untimely demise might've awaited Tandi and a deranged "boss" raider.

Vault 13, I actually included an outside to the cave entrance, with cars strewn about, supply trucks that never got unloaded and a deteriorated road leading to the mouth of the cave. There's even what looks to be the scan remains of an official government office, with a flag still flapping on a pole in front.

Don't double post, and, uh, why'd you call me "Morr"?

He's not even Polish... :)

Good to see the Fallout Tactics engine put to good use! You did a great job...they not only look like the locations, but have the same "natural" feel as they did. I shouldnt be surprised since they share the same universe even if the storytelling was vastly different.

Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

those maps are useless without dialouges, npc´s, and so on.

i wish somebody could do that.

Sorry for calling you Morr and sorry for "double-posting". I think this will be the last time I post to NMA. No big loss for you.

Don't go into the drama, it's not like anyone was rude for you, lighten up. And we Brazil fans should keep together :)

Aw, did big bad Silencer huwt your feewings? :puppy-dog:

Seriously, what Briosa said. Lighten up. Angsty tantrums won't make anyone in the community warm up to you.

If anyone can make these maps work like it's a Fallout RPG, they're her at NMA, and I really would love to play a graphic oosted version of Fallout... ah, dreams can be so sweet...

Does anyone here write pitsa? No, damn it, it's pizza! So why does people write Brazil when it's Brasil? Even you portuguese, shit, you guys gave us the name...

PS: Personally, I agree it would be more rational to be Brazil, but our portuguese cousins are the masterminds behind this hard language :P

PS2: Biosafreak, se você é mesmo português, diga ora pois ó pá! :P

Eheh well this is an englisg language forum so i use the english way, although Brasil is indeed cooler :)

The thing is i wasn't referring to your beautifull country, but to the Terry Gilliam film "Brazil", where he got the avatar. Beleza, tudo bom pra ti cara!

But Working's Tibbets map... it is bit similar to level 3 of a Vault. Of course MCA's Tibbets design doc does'n contain any prison maps. On the other hand - some idea can be found at USP Leavenworth webside, as Tibbets prototipe.

why not just recreate the whole game (fallout and or fallout 2) with tactics engine and add some stuff

would be a lot more than all that buggy mods

One: Lack of dialogue interface

Thank you.

On second paw, a "Wasteland" Redux could be done.

isnt there a dialogue interface in tactics at the mission briefings

Even if there is, the Tactics engine is hardly superior to the Fallout one and completely unfitting for an RPG anyway. The combat system is baaahaadly unbalanced.

There's no real point. Unlike Wasteland to Fallout 2 or Fallout Tactics engine. That'd have a point. A cool point.

And one that was already made

Oh yeah, and a one that's interactive enough to let you click "Continue" when the voiceover finishes, or even before that! Kid, look up "dialogue interface" in the dictionary.

Also, learn to capitalise the first letters in your sentences and end questions in quoation marks.

Okay I'm totally biased but IMHO the answer to all these problems is ...

FIFE :-)

(though I admit that the current version can't compete with the Fallout engine; but let's see what happens in the next 6 months)
