Far Cry 2

Where'd That 6th Toe Come From?
Anyone play this , what do you think?

I liked it at first glance but after playing a few hours some small things really got to me.

Stuff like:

* No prone :clap:

* You cant kill enemys stealthy with machete

* AI in general is weak

* Everyone is shooting at you and you have no idea why

* The dmg system sucks, the enemys take like 5-6 shots if you don't HS them and the player can also take way to many shots even on "infamous" (hardest setting)

All this = Epic fail imo

doesn't seem to be very modable apart from the map editor, i hope im wrong, because the game has real potential.

I've been playing it, and it can be quite fun if you're looking for an "action movie" type of gaming. Some of the firefights can just get really cool, and I love that we can actually use fire to our advantage.
It also seems to run really well on a wide variety of machines.

But yeah, the game hasn't really gripped me. It kinda feels like a lesser version of STALKER to me (though many prefer it to STALKER). A bit consolized, and repetitive. And like you say, especially that everyone in the world wants to kill you basically. It really sucks in an free-roaming type of game like this.

If it had the inventory based type of experience that STALKER has it could've been really cool. Finding hidden suitcases with diamonds in them just feels like a lamer version of chasing artifacts (if we're comparing to Clear Sky at least), and the fact that we can order weapons through some internet mail service is also a bit wtf (using above-mentioned diamonds as currency).
The setting is cool though.

I'm still having fun with it though, but I suspect I'll get bored with it fairly soon.

No prone is alright for me. Everytime you prone you would have a gras bush in front of you. It`s nice to have in multiplayer but in SP? It´s not like the AI could tell the difference.

Played a little bit FC2. It has a lot of wasted potential but overall it`s still fun. I miss c&c and dialogue options from games like Bloodlines.

Also lol at that malaria shit. That dev who came on that idea should be .. silenced.

Thats funny, most people discussing this matter think they didn't add it cus it would ruin the MP...

Also no leaning.. Which sucks since you can prone and lean in first Far Cry. And I like my proning and leaning in shooters very much. Maybe that's because of "consolization".
I'm having mixed feelings about this. Sometimes I really enjoy it, but other times it gets both annoying and boring.
And I got really excited on my first sneaking up on enemy in darkness with machete.. I followed one guy who got further away from his companions, then I killed him with machete, and got pretty proud of myself until just a second later I realised that somehow other enemies noticed this, which didn't make much sense. I hope that it's just some bug that will be fixed with patch. There are some other things in game that seem to need some balancing up.
Overall gameplay seems to be too repetitive too. Although it's possible to enjoy it very much if you go into game with the right mindset.
Also what's up with enemie respawns? On more than one occasion I would drive to my objective, taking out enemie camp down the road, than coming back not more than 2 minutes later and enemies are back? That gets old very quickly.
I gotta say, this game looked much better in demo videos than it actually is (what a surprise), and I'm a little bit dissapointed cause I was certain this will be much better shooter than Crysis. And now I must admit that in gunplay area Crysis provides far more enjoyable experience.. And that's the most important area in the FPS genre.
That's not saying I don't like it, I still enoy it a lot, just not as much as I thought I would. Fucking hype..

I found prone in Crysis to be very useful, yet that game has plenty of bushes and grass too.

Multidirectional seems like we have the same response to the game.

I forgot to mention No leaning, this was among the first things i noticed and was disapointed in also! So small things that really change the gaming experience so much.

I havent seen the "instant" respawns as a problem yet, but i will soon i guess, have seen many people complain about it!

Yes i totaly agree, seems like they put very little effort in this area which is very strange considering its a FPS :?

I'm loving this. I'm not a run n gun player, so the pace of FC2 fits me perfectly (I thoroughly scout out every mission before I go in, you'll never find me attacking an outpost without knowing exactly where every enemy is ahead of time). The AI is good, and I have yet to engage an enemy who just stood there out of cover firing blindly at me. Looks great and plays like butter. I haven't encountered a single bug either, so I'm not sure how this is being compared to that buggy heap of shit clear sky was.

At first the lack of prone bothered me, but after playing for a bit I really don't miss it.
The malaria thing feels tacked on, like an artificial hurdle to stretch out the gameplay a bit (traveling to get pills/rest); but that's the extent of my complaints.

Agree about malaria, it feels kinda out of place in the game like this. Not out of setting of course.. :)
What's very impressing to me - the engine. It looks and runs so great at same time. I'm playing this on Ultra High settings with 4x AA turned on, and I have yet to experience any performance problems, it's a very smooth experience.. Can't help but think that it would suit Fallout 3 way better than Gamebryo. I mean, Oblivion both looks and runs worse on my PC, it stutters in open areas quite a bit. Now I would think that it is common in free roaming games, but I haven't had a single stutter in FC2.

Failed sandbox. There's no engaging storyline, it just feels like Assassin's creed without the cool crusader setting and parkour moves. Meh.

I LOVE it so far (5 hours in).

Yes, no leaning and no prone sucks (probably because consoles don't have enough buttons).

They should also fix bad mouse sensitivity in menu and bad FOV on widescreen displays.

Maybe do something about respawns (though it didn't bother me so far).

But I love it anyway.ATMOSPHERE and freeform gameplay is just awesome.

It looks a thousand times better on PC, not entirely unexpected. It shows sign of being a poor 360 port though, as they kept safehouses in the PC version, even though you can save whenever you want to.

Safehouses are still useful in the pc version. AFAIK resting is the only way to advance the clock without just sitting there and waiting it out (Useful for me, because I like all of my missions to take place at night).

Grand Theft Far Cry. I've played an hour and got bored when some dudes in a city started firing at me for no obvious reasons. Maybe I'll give it another shot.

Ok now I'm not just annoyed with respawns, I'm seriously pissed.. Having to clear every checkpoint every time you drive through it is beyond irritating. Who the hell came up with this idea at Ubisoft anyway? I understand they didn't want you to have an empty map with no enemies to fight after you've played for a while, but enemies respawning INSTANTLY just after you leave the area is beyond stupid. Couldn't they've done this so enemies would respawn only after 24 hours of game time or so? What the fuck is wrong with game developers nowadays anyway.. They are so full of bad ideas they may as well be politicians at this point.
This eliminates any sense of achievement after you clear out enemy checkpoint, and makes me not want to play the game anymore.
I gotta hand it to Crytek - Far Cry 1, while having atrocious story, and disgusting main character who would make you wanna be deaf everytime he opens his mouth AND annoying mutants, overall still feels like a more rewarding experience. At least the enemies would stay dead once you are done with them. :)
Ok, I'm kinda pissed now, it's still possible I'll change my mind some time later.. At least I hope so.

How exactly do you expect to kill someone stealthily with a machete?

Ever held one? It's a pretty big, wobby, thin blade. Mostly used to chop down small bushes. You'd need to land at least two or three well-placed blows into a person to kill.

Be that as it may, you need only one blow to kill someone with machete in FC2.. You not just swing with it, you get this cool animation of "stealth-like" kill. Which should make it kinda stealthy. But it doesn't.

Well, swing it very hard into the guys neck's side? Doubt he'll even shout.

Also, the blur is troublesome - everything is shining bright in daytime (it's Africa, I know) and I can't always decipher what the hell am I looking at (also, I'm not playing on highest details).

Ah well.

I'll probably try it out just for the sake of shooting and gratuitious eye-candy. Never really forward to this game.

I'm really looking forward to GTA IV.
