Feargus Urquhart talks New Vegas, bugs and Fallout Online

the first person perspective is the best way to get immersed in a game world.

Bullshit.

The First Person perspective throws everyrthing in your face and leaves the player with no space for his imagination and soon to be outdated graphics. Fallout1/2 had none of this. There you have timeless graphics which get thorougly described in the GMs way, throuigh messages in the textbox, clerevly written lines which are vague enough to let the player create the world visually in his mind, and not through some dull 3d graphics.

Completely disagree, the first person perspective is the best way to get immersed in a game world

I think first person is way overrated as an immersion tool. The lack of peripheral vision kills it for me, there is no reason I should be completely blind to some enemy slightly to my left because I'm not facing that direction. It also every prevents you from ever looking at yourself.

For the most part I greatly prefer third person similar KOTOR or Demon's Souls to first person for close to the action camera. It gives you chance to rotate the camera around to see your character and also prevents enemies from sneaking up on you from places they never should be able to do so.

Top down and isometric are better for more strategic games, but they tend to detach you a bit from the action. They are good for RPGs where you have a significant party following you around though.

I think first person perspective makes you realize bad graphics much faster than anything else. And with bad graphics I mean lightning, details in the gameworld, interactive elements, animations of objects, etc.

First person shooter-esque games that you can "immerse" now can be totally "un-immersive" in 10 years because of better technology.

If you say so, i can still play a game like System Shock 2 (which is almost as old as Fallout and still get chills. A game with great production values and art assets doesnt have to look aged regardless of nature . Its amazing how stuck in the amber u guys are. honestly i get the impression that if someone had just made New Vegas using the Fallout 1/2 engine and called it Fallout 3 you guys would join in 1 big circle jerk in. I get it that you guys hate what bethesda did to "your" game but not every choice they made was wrong and that goes for the first person nature of the game. I still remember the first time i played FO3 and walked out of that Vault to see the wasteland stretched out before me, DC out in the distance. it was a powerful thing, the rest of the game might not have lived up to the promise of that moment but its something u didnt get walking out of the vault in FO1. at least i didnt

Double posting is considered bad habit around these parts. Just saying.

I hope you do completely agree that this is matter of personal preference. Or do you claim it being a universal truth?

Bethesda did plenty of things wrong with FO3 but that wasnt one of them.
While I completely agree with the first part, I mostly disagree with the second one. Older posts may clarify the "perspective battles" being fought on these grounds in the past days; we can't explain it each time someone drops by claiming this and that. Lurkin' and diggin' are your best friends, you can't go wrong with those.

 Missing the times when there was more of these impressions.

If you say so

You know, first thing is, that "immersion" is a totally subjective thing. Second thing is, saying "only fps are immersive!" or "only non-fps are immersive!" is generalizing and stupid.

Its amazing how stuck in the amber u guys are.

You are imagining things now?

u didnt get walking out of the vault in FO1. at least i didnt

Yes, "u" didn't. But other people did... "To the west, you can see a natural light. For the first time in your life, you are looking at the outside world."

I don't care about the rest of your post, as it's generic yadda-yadda.
