Finding the Cafe of Broken Dreams

First time out of the vault
I've completed the game but want to find the Cafe. I've searched between San Francisco and NCR and east of Navarro, where I've heard it can be located. Any ideas on where to look? Will clicking on the square it is located in be enough or do I have to click in many areas within each square? I've been clicking about 4 times in each square.

Since it's a random encounter, it's random (yeah), so it's not like there's a specific part of the map in which you can come across it (there are exceptions) - the Cafe can be found anywhere. Your clicking thing was a bit of waste of time, but that happens ;) You'll find the Cafe, you just have to walk on the world map long enough. To make it easier (you completed the game, right? Beat the Enclave, this is?) go to Father Tully in New Reno, grab the FO2 Handboook and get levellin', then choose perks which increase your chance to get random encounters (these are Scout, Explorer and Ranger) and you'll improve the odds. Then just hope for the best. Actually I come across the Cafe in every game I play, so I guess you should be fine.

Can't you change some files as well? I'm not sure, but I seem to remember someone mentioning this. That you can alter the chance of having random and special encounters by changing some numbers in certain files. I could be confusing this with FOT, though. I'm not sure. Maybe you should do a 'search' to find out.

On my last run through FO2, I didn't get the Cafe encounter either. Didn't specifically look for it either, to be honest.

Well, if we're talking about messing around with game files, then it's not the real game anymore. If so, that assumes you want to find the Cafe just to see the people and their lines, and Dogmeat, and Set which is my personal favourite there ;) Then why not push Ctrl-R on the main menu screen, choose the "rndcafe" map, save the game there, push Ctrl-R again and load it back? Plays out pretty much the same and you don't have to do the walking and/or game files modifying. There's actually nothing in the Cafe that would be useful in a real game, so that's some idea, I suppose.

Yes, I just want to experience being in the cafe and seeing Dogmeat and other characters. I did find the bridge and the fallen whale in my explorations. I'll try your suggestions.

Thanks. I didn't realize you could do that. I saw the cafe but no one would talk to me. I thought that maybe I could exit the map there and discover where I was, but that didn't work. I'll try Father Tully next and see what happens. I had read that he cafe was always on the south end of the world map. I''ll keep looking.

Edit: After seeing Father Tully, I found the cafe just east of the military base, Thanks.
