First aid and Doctor- Useless?

Jabbapop

Still Mildly Glowing
From what i've noticed, these skills only heal you a few hitpoints. Doctor only seems useful for getting the implants in vault city? is that all?

I think first aid is good only if it's at a really high level. But, I've never worked it up that much so I don't know. Doctor is a good skill to have, because it's a lifesaver if you get a limb broken. I once got attacked by a group of scientists and thugs with sledgehammers and had both my legs broken. And I was wearing Power Armor, too. One a SMG'd them all to pieces I doctored a couple of times til my legs were healed.

its extremely usefull on tictacs

Indeed.

And as Mogzig said, you need a good doctor skill so you don't have to spend an hour clicking 8 then clicking your character. And with a broken leg you can't run. Broken arm, no two handed weapons. Eye - pretty much 1% chance to hit everything. So, doctor is where it's at.

It's crap in FO1/2. You rarely get broken limbs, so it's pretty useless.

In addition, a high Doctor skill enables you to get the Living Anatomy perk, which is good (although there are many more important perks to be obtained before that one)

+5 damage per bullet shot at living beings (so doesnt count for bots and stuff)

But is great for burst weapons, acting like a 2.5x Bonus Ranged Damage :D And does count against everything but bots.

Also, you get +10% Doctor ;)

Doctor? A waste of skillpoints in FO and FO2, if you ask me. And Bessie can be healed with a *very* low Doctor skill (just keep on trying, and it'll work eventually - it does for me).

Good to have a doctor around in FOT, though, no argument there.

Better yet: just reload when you get shot in the eye or whatever. And put those skillpoints to a better use (small guns, big guns, speech, lockpicking, sci-fi-turbo-plasma-wacko-jacko-guns and so on).

Hmpf!

Then again, what would you like to spend SP's on at high levels? Doctor's a good pick, boost it up to 60%, the Living anatomy, the Vault City Training, and then you can have the combat armour implants.

I'd do it just for the convenience. Although I can imagine more appealing ways of developing a char, that's to be said. :)

some might find that pretty lame and want to play the game more "hardcore"-style

back on topic:

something some of you seem to forget is that for first aid you dont need to spend skillpoints on it, just read a lot of first aid manuals (it will bring you to about 90-ish% first aid). it does heal enough to be useful after a small skirmish. (but indeed, it would be a waste of skillpoints).

it's true you dont "find" that many first aid manuals but you can easily buy some, since stuff to trade (and money) are almost never in short supply for your character (unless your a complete loser that doesn't understand the game)

Just hunt deathclaws with gauze rifle and all is 300% if you have the patience, relatively quickly.

The skills are only really useful for getting the implants and are too good in tactics IMO. That does give you a reason to actually have a medic though because crippled limbs and huge damage is much more common in tactics.

Yeah, those must be the same people who start whining after a while and start threads like "OMG! Mutantz shot me to pieces and I have no saved gamez! Is there a scroll of resurrection in Broken Hillz or anywhere else? Or can someone pleaze send me a savegame?"

And think about the bugs! Sooner or later they get you and what then? (yes: whining, again!)

I don't see how saving/reloading a game like FO/FO2/Arcanum is lame. Actually, SeeMeShite, the fokking manuals advise you to do so VERY OFTEN. They don't write that because it's lame, but because it's most probably the smartest thing you can possibly do.

Voilà! 8)

my post said "some"
and more "hardcore"-style

was more thinking along the lines of no loading unless you die and such (because yeah, you die eventually)

but not reloading just because you jammed a locker, lost an eye, lost your ear :p, broke your leg,...

although loosing an eye in battle pretty much leads to certain death

But in Tactics you get double experience for that, which is good. In the RPG you aren't rewarded for being stalwart nor punished for being a pansy, so it's only up to you.

Too bad you didn't get xp in FT divided upon party members - so that you'd get 6*xp when beating the missions alone :D

i wouldnt know about the tough guy thingy in tictacz

only played the demo and i was horrified by the rape of the FO-spirit by our dear friends @ interplay

pretty clear i wasnt going to buy that shite

Fallout Tactics was the first fallout title I played, and while Fallout 2 is my current favorite game I don't understand everyone's hatred of Fallout Tactics

I mean...it's the best tactical strategy game I can find (other than XCOM which I have played to death)

and it has gunny in it, and the advanced power armor is in a refrigerator in a backwater for some reason, and I got Pipboy on my team!

and I only payed like $15 for it too
