First time playing Fallout 2

HIPPOPOTAMUS

First time out of the vault
Hi, I just started the game last week and am having a lot of fun. My character stats are probably the worst ever but I just wanted to do whatever I want the first time playing through instead of reading a guide and making a perfect char. Where should I put the stats next? Any other thoughts? I know she's probably terrible.. but I'm cool with that. I just beat the Rat God but it took like an hour and a half and 50 restarts to take him down. I'm using spiked knuckles as my weapon. She's barely surviving.. I have no healing except for First Aid and $1. Can't find any more Xander root, either. And she seems to be an addict.. I'm really feelin this survival atmospheric thing going on.

Isn't this a little bit of a contradiction? Just play. You can't go far wrong.

That's a good point!
I just wanted to make sure she wasn't totally crippled forcing to start over later in the game or something. I've probably died well over a 100 times already.. I'm at The Den. She just doesn't do any damage.

It's actually quite hard to make a character not able to finish the game, if not impossible, so don't worry.

That's understandable, seeing how your character has sub-par Strength.

Solution: Work your strong points.

You've decent PE and Agility scores, switch to firearms ASAP. With a high Charisma like that, you can recruit up to four followers (five if you get a CH boos by one of the possible ways in-game) High Intelligence will allow you to boost your skliis quickly , especially Combat skills which suffered from Good Natured. If you find yourself low on hit points later on, do make sure you invest in best armour and perhaps take a Lifegiver Perk when you can.

Have fun!

Wow things have changed over the last few hours. I somehow made it all the way to the gate of Vault City by running away from most random encounters and saving often. It took hours.. I believe I'm at level 5. As I got closer to Vault City, there were a few encounters of Patrol vs Slavers and I just waited till the Patrol killed them and then looted the Slavers' corpes for a bunch of expensive guns worth a grand or two each. I put more points into small firearms till an energy weapon becomes available. I also got married to another female by the name of Miria in the city of Modoc. I put some weapons and other gear on her. So if this person dies, she's gone forever.. damn. This game is just awesome.. so open-ended and atmospheric. It pulls you in.. I'm hooked. The gore is unexpectedly gruesome.. :o Now I know why sites like this have been around for so many years. You've got a great community here. Thanks for the replies.

I need help.. a while ago I encountered the 'Pariah Dog' and now he's a member of my party and gave the Jinxed perk. Well, this perk is game changing.. it has a huge effect in combat and I'm not sure I like it because it's so drastic. Basically, the enemies trigger the critical misses that result in missed turns/drops/loss of ammo.. these happen ALL the time. Really often... like every turn, multiple times. Problem is it happens to me quite often as well.. mainly my NPC Lenny. I also have another NPC Cassidy and can't recall it ever happening to him but it happens with Lenny regularly... and he gets the one where the weapon is destroyed as well. It happens with my char too but not as often.. usually it's in melee combat but I use guns most of the time. Sometimes the gun drops. Anyways... what do i do? I need to get rid of this thing. I Googled the Pariah Dog and it seems it has 750 hit points. I'm only level 9 so there's no way to get all the ammo required to kill him. Also, Jinxed brought my Luck down to one!!! I don't want to wait till much later in the game till I can finally take him out... what other method is there? Thanks for any help

That point where you posted twice in a row. It's called double posting. Don't do it.

For your Pariah Dog question - he's with you until he gets killed, there's no other way or shortcut to get rid of him. It doesn't have to be a bad thing though - I got stuck with him my first time playing too, and figuring out how to kill him and experimenting made it one of the most memorable parts of the game, even dozens of replays later.
