FO2 Temple of trials diplomatic solution?

sips22

First time out of the vault
Problem is, it wont work on me even when every walkthrough says it should.

I have character with:

strenght 5
perception 3 (impaired because healing side effect)
endurance 5
charisma 8 (!)
intelligence 9 (!)
agility 5
luck 4

also i have speech skill 111%
and trait good natured

Yet, there is no way to speak myself out from battle with cameron. Only two speech options - fight now or wait .

Version i am playing is GOG Fallout 2.

What i am doing wrong? I created specifically diplomatic character and yet she fails badly...

I have 3 skills tagged (greyed out), small guns, first aid, and SPEECH!

Hm, then the only other thing would be that you can only ask each question one time, so if you ask "why do we have to fight?" and don't follow it up with "I believe there's a peaceful solution bla bla", and leave dialogue and save, you're out of luck. You can try the thiefy solution for the same amount of xp though.

After tests with several new characters it appeared that so many guides around the net are not precise enough, and it is not speech that is so crucial, but CH.

Here is my new character and it worked well:

As you see CH is now higher than IN. It is possible that IN can be even lower.

With this character you get completely new diplomatic speech line.

Simply not true. Following Per's guide (although I did this on my very first playthrough as well, looooong before I discovered his work) I would make characters with abundant IN and decent CH, and the diplomatic solution would never EVER pose any problems, provided my Speech was merely tagged. Testing could be done to determine if it was the level of Speech or the actual job of tagging it to see which enabled/disabled the diplomat's response, but seeing as my Speech, due to almost ALWAYS using the Gifted Trait, at level 1 would never go above 50%, and your Speech values were clearly well-above that, we can completely rule out "Speech isn't high enough". It's merely a question of whether 20-50 Speech is enough, or whether the tagging itself does the trick, although I'm fairly certain all of the years of modding has uncovered that little "secret" long, long ago, and that it is indeed tagging or not tagging. Like Per suggested, it seems likely that you simply picked the wrong dialog path the first time around.

To get the dialog option you have to have speech tagged, nothing else matters (except the "you can only ask each question once" part ofc).
Then for him to agree that fighting is unnecessary, it checks again to see if speech is tagged or you have to pass a speech roll. Both of those checks are totally redundant as you can't get there without the tag in the first place.
Is it clear enough now? ;)
