FOnline: 2238 announced

Seriously, the game is fun, its day 1, deal with it.

Yeah, but the game has been in development since February.

I don't need an open test to be able to tell you that starting players off with nothing but a radio (or it seems nothing at all) is a bad idea.

There's a group that's written a guide for 2238.

Hopefully that'll be more useful than a four panel comic.

Good luck, folks.

You really hate The Regulators for kicking you I see :) The only thing you did for the last few months was bitch around. Cut it. You can't handle it - don't play it. I leveled almost 2 characters to level 3. Yes it's hard but it will keep the maniacs from power leveling. And the other thing is - find at least 3-4 person group.

Played The Life After for 2 hours then realized that I wasn't playing 2238...

Then switched...

I have a question now : is it me or the 2238 server is really crawling right now ? Didn't have that problem with The Life After...

Yes it's really slow right now. They are constantly updating it. It's getting more fun by a minute...At least for me :)

I get the impression the devs were too scared of making the game too easy, making it too difficult for everyone.

DUDE, the game is unplayable because of heavy lags.

We are working on this.

Yes, a group of hobby game designer is working since 7 months on it in their free time. I am sorry that it is not yet a AAA+ title. We should quit our jobs to work fulltime on it...

I am still waiting for your FOnline game that you will build in 7 months. :)

I've got some things to report :

1- Mobs can run in combat mode while we can't

2- When you are with a group and hit a random encounters, mobs attack the leader first. And as it's not really fighting kind and mobs spawn near to him he barely has no chance.

3- Shouldn't be have a few quests ?

4- Weren't we suppose to still have a radio after we died ?

Another question :

Is it normal that I don't have any music in 2238 ? I had the ost in The Life After.

Copy the music from your Fallout 2 installation or cd into your client /data/music/ folder and you have music.

Some other feedback :

1- I hope you'll work soon on a share experience system. Seriously in a game as in Fallout where you need to be group it's the first thing you think about.

No wonder why there is only a few doctor, high charisma character, and so many Small Guns.

2- I found a few quests. Particulary one in Den for Rebecca. She asked me to repair her gambling table. I did. But no more dialog with her and no reward.
It totally has disgusted me from making quest.

3- Shoveling shit is really a fucking bad idea. Shitting rates are too low, people kill Brahmins or kill each other for getting the shit.
I think just upping the shitting rates would be enough to fix that though.

Basically I'm surprised to see it's way behind OBT2 in quality of game and gameplay. People are forced to kill town NPCs (even children) or Brahmin in order to get some XP.

I hoped you'll take all our feedback in consideration and work all this out as fast as you can.

there is a issue with existing areas too. often i cant exit a random encounter area or city area while im in or not in combat... its really fucked up if your are hunted by a wild dogs pack. and get killed by them (happend twice, and got gangbanged by ghouls too twice, because i spawned in the middle of them)

i have a question concerning stealing, do you guys intend to change the stealing animation, or completly remove it...?

Yes, stealing will be overworked in future.

To exit grid: This is also because of mega lag.

Let me write my first impressions (sorry for my english):

1) First (not actually an impression), congratulate the team for the excellent work, this is a dream becoming truth for all of us.

2) A newbie area must be done in some non capturable cities. In this areas geckos or rats should respawn MUCH faster then they are doing now. It must be in a non capturable city because of the problem someone has already mentioned. The faction will just expel the nbs and prohibit them from shoveling crap, for example.

3) Random encounter are a bit tough, critters seems to be doing more damage, leather armor is not a nice protection from animals anymore, and since it is meant to be one of the few armors in the game, the stats could be better, or the critters should make less damage.

4) Economy needs to be developed. The wealth groups i saw probably exploited the bug in the beggining of the test. Players should be able to get raw material more easily, I had particulary difficult in finding a sledgehammer or an ore mine. Players should be able to get flint and broc flower/xander root from floor despite their skills. I think it is ridiculous if you cant get a flint in the floor only because you are not skilled in something. With these, players may have something to make and sell in shops (knukles, 5mm guns, etc...).

good to hear that, because stealing is really entertaining... even now... :D

concerning ping, will be there some command to display the ping something like /ping etc...?

Btw I wonder why the server wasn't reset just after those bugs were fixed.

It has totally unbalanced the game for some people.

Other things to notice:

Spawning randomly is not a good idea.
I found myself to spawn in Broken Hills, encounters there are thougher and I was forced to move to another town to shovel or do anything else.

We should spawn in Klamath/Den kind of town.
