FOT Revision Mod

VFSniper

It Wandered In From the Wastes
Is anyone interested in a helping to revise the single player camp. of FOT? I have already added new sprites, sounds and weapons to the game. What I need is mappers who want to revise the original maps add weapons, more objectives, dialogue, traders, enemies, etc. Also we could add a few of the single player maps already released ( with the author permissions of course) into the sp camp. More than anything I want to change the missions have more options in game play (make then less linear). I have already begun to do this I'm just wondering 1. if anyone wants to help and 2. if anyone wants to play this kind of mod.

I'm a total novice in mod building, so I wouldn't be much use in that area. I'd play it though.

Little tip. Maybe you already know about that... Anyway, if you'll set the race of human recruits into tribal they'll be able to wear Reaver and Raider Armors. It's quite cool to have Reaver like looking recruit in the team.

good idea

it sounds like a brilliant idea. id play a mod like that. i always liked tactics and adding more depth can only make it better.

One idea for this endeavor might be to either redo or replace some of the special encounters. You could exchange one of the essentially useless or silly encounters (MIR, L33tists) with an entire mission-sized area.

New permanent areas would be very cool, except it would involve a large package unless people were willing/able to import it into their own bos.cam file.

A separate side-story or two comprised of gradually revealed new areas, special encounters, and additions to existing missions could potentially add some life as you work through the main game. Just a couple suggestions.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, now to reply to some posts

Continuum- I didn't know about that thanks and your right that would be a neat option.

Nimrod "either redo or replace some of the special encounters"
This is what prompted the mod in the first place :D

Large files are an unfortunate part of any kind of major mod, I am considering hosting on moddb.com, right file size a little over 250 mb for the mod 15% finished.

Now I have some questions for the Community.

1. What kind of new weapons would you like to see in this mod? (keeping the following in mind)
A. I don't care about the weapons fitting into a time-line
B. I already plan to add the full arsenal from FO1/FO2 into the mod.

2. How do you feel about looting armors, like in FO1.

Well, it's my opinion that with the myriad weapons already available, there wouldn't be much point to have a pile of new ones that are the same as old ones with different graphics. Unless you were going for a theme. So a few with a bit more edge would be warranted.

Not sure exactly how to make it happen, but some upgradeable weapons would be cool. Perhaps at one point you find an optical scope that someone could "attach" to a sniper rifle to give it night sight and/or a small accuracy bonus. A harness could be added to a big, heavy gun to lower the ST requirement.

A ghillie suit, with low protection but good camouflage.

Grenades. A stick grenade could be thrown farther than a regular grenade, although it would weigh more due to the handle. A phosphorus grenade could have a critical hit bonus, since inhaling the chemicals is lethal. Right now, playing with anything besides guns isn't very effective, so other weapons with more potency could broaden the player's options a bit.

Bear in mind the closest I've ever been to military weapons is in Fallout. That said, how about some weapons with an extra mode of attack? During (I think) Vietnam there was a variation on the M2 built that had a single-shot mode to be used for sniping. The pulse rifles in Aliens had three modes; single, four-round burst, and fully automatic.

More ammo can be added. According to Wikipedia, 7.62 bullets have both AP and FMJ varieties.

Another thing that could be messed with a bit: In the wasteland, food is a pretty precious commodity, so certain types of food would have a significantly higher trade value depending on the shelf life. Packaged military rations that won't go bad would be quite expensive.

Likewise the non-radiating/non-rotgut alcohols (a bottle of genuine Jack Daniel's - wow!) and if you really wanted to give the player a treasure, put in some water. Heavy as hell but worth some serious bucks.

I've often wondered why Fallout is awash with booze and drugs, but no smokes. I'd personally think cigarettes would be used as money, and some people would kill their mothers for a half-decent cigar.

Granted, money is kind of a moot point, so trade goods like this are mainly for atmosphere. But atmosphere sounds like what you're aiming for. Anyway, just a couple ideas off the top of my head.

Nimrod- "myriad weapons already available, there wouldn't be much point to have a pile of new ones that are the same as old ones with different graphics"

Well I'm a weapons guy, so I enjoy having a ton of weapons to pick from, but I see what you're saying and part of this mod is trying to introduce some differences in between the weapons so that there are distinct advantages and disadvantages to everyone.

"Bear in mind the closest I've ever been to military weapons is in Fallout"

I have had a fair amount of exp with all types of firearms, so I hope to make the firearms in the game more realistic in terms of damage, firemodes, and accuracy.

"More ammo can be added. According to Wikipedia, 7.62 bullets have both AP and FMJ varieties. "

You're absolutely right most ammo calibers have multiple types and this has already been completed with most ammo having a few different varieties (AP, JHP, EXP, EMP) and several new calibers being added

Personally I have never liked how un-real the scarcity of items is compared to the what you get for trades, so I want to try to make this area more realistic.

I was randomly checking out maps and the "industrial disease" factory map gave me an idea. Suppose a group like the Gun Runners from F1 put in an appearance.

Say you need to find a special encounter that has an old newspaper article about a large factory (which reveals it on the world map). Then you need to do something for them before you can get in the door. Then you can salvage materials or schematics to bring back and get access to different weapons for sale.
