Gambling in Fallout 2

First time out of the vault
I did search for "gambling fallout 2" but didn't seem to get any relevant results. I tried to gamble in the Den by clicking on the person by the roulette table, but it was this incomprehensible game that I actually got stuck in (stuck in the dialogue tree, that is) and had to force the game closed. I can't remember if this was in the normal version of F2 but I certainly don't remember it. I've been playing it with the Restoration patch so it might have been added by that.

Rather than the random roulette games you get in F1, this was something that had about 5 or 6 options and would return to the first dialogue option after making a choice, none of which made any sense. I've actually been to a casino and played on a roulette table and this is totally foreign to me. Can anyone explain what the hell is going on and how you're meant to play it?

Edit
I just took a screenshot of it to show you, then I realised that the text description says it's a craps table. I haven't got the slightest idea how to play that, I guess it hasn't really taken off in my country since I don't think I've ever seen it in a casino. I went to the Wiki page of it and it looks complicated as hell. Is there just a nice basic set of choices to put into the game that will enable me to rely on my characters Gambling skill without having to understand how to play craps?

I never had any luck gambling in the Den...but in New Reno you can make an infinite amount of money with time. Once you get you gambling skill up to 120% - and with high luck 8+, you will win the majority of games. So just find a $100 table in New Reno, and weigh down the keyboard with something...come back after 20 minutes to see how much you have won.

Oh, so they do have roulette again rather than craps? Just in New Reno? Thank God for that.

Yeah, once when I played Fallout 1 I had a pretty high Gambling skill - not too high, though, just about 60% or so - and I found that once you'd started the gambling process, you could press 4 then 1 on the keyboard to bet and re-bet over and over. So I made a keyboard macro to just automatically type 4 then 1 forever. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day I'd ended up with so much money that the bottle tops item just said 999999 all the way across (I forget exactly how many 9s) and wouldn't drop below that no matter how much I spent. I would say it made the game too easy, but I found all the armour I ever used and the only weapons I used were brass knuckles and then a power fist.

redding is good for gambling too. from my experience >120% in gambling is enough to make large amounts of money, without 8 points spent in luck.

Hi,

Im not sure if "gravedigging" topics is frowned upon here, but it seemed silly to start a new topic when most of the info i wanted to know is in here :P

The last question I had is, HOW (and why) would you spend that many skillpoints on gambling? Doesnt it affect your necessary skills, like, small arms/speech in such a way that you fall behind on progress?

I never really had any "spare" skill points until lvl 20, at which I rarely was in need of money, since I earn plenty from random encounters and other loot....
Would you have to tag the skill, or is that a bit TOO much?

Hope to find out how its done.... :)

This is what you have done.

Gravedigging topics here is super-super frowned upon. It can get you banned from using this site forum for anything.

Spending points on Gambling does help you in the beginning in Fallout 2 if you do not want to have the Pipe Gun for 2 levels because you get money. Getting money would help you to get quick cash, then you can spend it for weapons, and then by level 9 you have $60000 and can just buy your way out of trouble because you can buy Heavy Weapons and you get to do stuff quicker. ( Like the Toxic Cave Map Vault)
If you want money fast in the beginning, focus on Gambling (Tagging).
I did that on my last run of Fallout 2 and I did not even do the "Navarro Run" and had a ton of stuff. ( You get to spend points on Guns and Stuff between level 9 and level 19 with the right perk.)

So: Whatever you want. It's a roleplaying game.

Gravedigging Threads here on NMA is super deadly! (You can get banned!) Once you Gravedig here, anyone can attack you! Be glad I replied and not anyone else.
Next time: Start a Thread.

Ignore Neane, a just over two month old thread isn't considered dead and grave-digging isn't really frowned upon if you have something relevant to add! But they do have a point about role-playing there really isn't a right or wrong way to play the game. The only necessary skills are the skills that define your character, not every character has to be an orator and a sharpshooter. Plus 120 skill points doesn't take long to amass and is still fairly mid skill level.

The administrators aren't Nazis - they would advise people to use the "search" function first, and give a warning if you repeated the mistake. Strikes and bans are usually the result of repetitive trolling or massive stupidity. It doesn't hurt to read the forum rules...
