Game Reactor has a video interview up with Emil Pagiarulo. Duck and Cover provides some extractions:
*New example for choices and consequences: you meet a little kid in the wasteland, the question is what do you do with the kid?

*Everytime you fire a gun, the shots are determined by your skills.

*Emil says he`s very proud of the rad scorpions in Fallout 3.

*The game will feature old robots (Mr. Handy etc.) and a bunch of new ones.

*He says the deathclaw definitely won`t be a furry deathclaw.

*"Flaming sword" with gasoline. (EDIT: "so we have one that`s called a shishkabob, its a sort of a flaming sword, you know, using, you know, imagine(?) like a motorcycle gasoline tank.... stuff like that.")
Link: Game Reactor interview with Emil Pagiarulo.

Thanks Bloch.

They've taken the best parts of Fallout indeed

I want to kill him and suffer the consequences of that vile act... Whoops, I can't

I'm still downloading the video to see for myself, but if this is true, then I wonder how anyone can possibly doubt Bethesda's ineptitude at keeping true to Fallout.

don`t wanna mislead you, the correct quote goes as follows:

so we have one that`s called a shishkabob, its a sort of a flaming sword, you know, using, you know, imagine(?) like a motorclycle gasoline tank.... stuff like that.

i didn`t knew what a shishkabob is untill i googled for.

btw. nice smilies :salute:

I suspect that playing this game will be a mindfuck of epic proportions for me personally.
I enjoyed Oblivion for the most part on my first playthrough, though there were some glaring flaws.

If I don't look at the "Falloutness" of F3, it seems that Bethesda are creating a game with the RPG stuff that Oblivion didn't have.
IF they succeed in making a good RPG this time around, then my mood swings while playing Fallout 3 will probably be all over the place. Fairly certain that I won't feel it's a good Fallout sequel, but on the other hand might be good game on its own.

I wonder how much the non-Fallouty stuff will annoy me when playing the game. Unless Bethesda manages to make one of the most amazing RPGs ever, I think the non-Fallouty stuff will completely destroy the experience for me.

And, whoever edited that video should be gored with the Flaming gasoline sword.

ok i just saw the little movie thingee they did and a few thoughts...

1)
when he mentions that they wanted to keep the deathclaw true to the original and not have a furry deathclaw, my thought was what about the supermutants... they arent good enough to take back to what it was in FO1/2 ?

2)
he mentions bringing back robobrain, but wasnt he a uniqe AI experiment from skynet that was not duplicated?

3)
when " fallout fan sites " are mentioned you can actually see him roll his eyes and dip his head in dissapointment. only thing i got to say is thats how we feel about the information we have received so far.

now dont get me wrong, i think this may be a GREAT game in the same vein as Fable and oblivivious(LOL!)... but those are action-adventure games with RPG elements but not RPGs.

Good, but what the hell!!! A flaming sword buahauhaua
That hardly fits to Gothic3, but having one in Fallout 3 WTF? I say: This sounds stupid! :P Flaming swords, mutant orcs and shiny graphics, thats the way to make money.
My experience about games tells me, that Fallout3 will be one of the worst games ever, what is really really sad.

There were robobrains in Fallout 1 and Van Buren as well (and in Tactics if you count Barnaky's humanoid robobrain). According to J.E. Sawyer, they were mostly brains of (previously brainwashed) convicted criminals connected to some fancy life support system and used as part of robot AI instead of a death sentence. See:

The sword thing is a joke, right?
Don't think so, and even after watching the video myself and hearing the quote in context, it still sounds pretty dumb. Making a flaming sword out of a motorcycle gas-tank? Just... yeah. And people thought that adding wakizashis from randomly-encountered Yakuza gangs was bad.

I like the custom weapons idea. I have to admit mostly because I am sucker for crafting in video games, after having played Ultima Online for so long (lumberjacking, blacksmithing, you name it!)

The thought of creating your own anything excites me.

I'd like to see an RPG one day, where you could use a physics system to actively craft armor. You'd lay down a hot ingot and use a hammer to bend the material in any shape you'd like. The game engine would automatically tally up the statistics for the item after you are done with it, based on a templated database. For example, you craft a round, spiked shield. It automatically does 100 simulations of combat against your new item, resulting in that it can deflect arrows pretty well, and that you can slam this shield into an enemy, so it gives you a damage bonus against enemies who attack you, making them lose health with each hit (Think thorns effect); and a reduction from piercing weapons. It will also tally up this new item's general defensive rating based on shape, material, craftmanship, and thelike. For example, if this shield was made out of iron, a warhammer would break the crap out of it, so it's durability would be relatively low, but it would be good against bladed weapons.

Sorry for going off on a tangent. ;)

Edit: Also, flaming shishkebab has no place in Fallout, other than in Bob's Iguana Stand. :P

This sounds like something that would fit better into BOS, they had plenty of weapons that were on fire for no reason in that game...

*New example for choices and consequences: you meet a little kid in the wasteland, the question is what do you do with the kid?

Well for starter we know what we can't do. Especially when the action is general and affect every living (and not so living) thing in the game world, you can hardly call that situation a "choice".

*"Flaming sword" with gasoline.

This just goes more and more absurd day by day.

I want to sell that kid into slavery for gasoline and NUKULAR KATAPULTZ.

Now, which professionul gaming journalists will pick up on this line and collectively salivate over it?

I am starting to get the idea that Bethesda declared Fallout Tactics and Fallout Brotherhood of Steel non canon not because the storylines conflicted with Fallout 1 and 2, but because they wanted to fill Fallout 3 up with their own 'stupid idea weapons' and not be compared with the homemade crap of FPOS.

The sword thing is old news. It was mentioned in a joint interview (Strategy Core and some site called NMA):
http://www.strategycore.co.uk/e3/pg/07fallout3

Can you add scopes or silencers to weapons?

No, you can't. We don't allow you to modify existing guns to customize them. For example, you can't take a pistol you've been using and add a scope to it. It's more like finding an old motorcycle gas can and an old sword blade and creating an entirely new weapon.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what you can make with a gas can and an old sword blade. Speaking of which, what old sword blades are doing in my motherfucking Fallout universe?

Edit:

Bioshock? Anyone?
Nope. You could actually kill the kids in Bioshock.
