As a kid I obsessively listened to Michael Jackson, and weirdly enough obsessed about one particular album of Chris Rea
I also absorbed a lot of what my parents listened to, meaning lots of Latin-American folk and protest music, on my dad's side, and "pub-rock" (Dire Straits and other rock-blues, as well as Guns n' Roses) on my mom's
As a teen I became enfatuated with Marilyn Manson, which coincided with internet forums, and as such I have had years of presence on the on-and-off official Manson forums, which are by now, afaik, permanently off.
Over time Manson came to bore me, and I searched on. During my Manson time I also listened to Cradle of Filth (in particular Cruelty and the Beast), Massice Attack (Mezzanine in particular) and Wu Tang Clan's Forever, a little all-over-the-place.
You might also notice I am often about particular albums, rather than their respective bands.
In the end, I don't even know what I prefer or don't prefer. I had a Radiohead period as well, and I dabbled some in I guess more "commercial" electronica, such as Plaid. I like when music has to "grow on you"
I have found and enjoyed countless folk tunes, from all over the world, that I sadly rarely find out what are really called, since I pick them up from Youtube, and people suck at properly labelling their music. I am very strict about correct labelling, you should see my MP3 list (which is moderately short, compared to music fanatics, with only around 700 tracks or so - but each track VERY correctly labelled!)
I have yet to truly find myself to be a real "fan" of any particular band or artist. Despite this I always considered myself highly musical.
