Going to buy a laptop..want to game.

Water Chip? Been There, Done That
So I have finally gotten together enough money to buy a ok laptop. not that much, around 1800 euro, and for this I plan to buy a laptop. (anything else is out of the question, I am a student, I like to be able to just pack upp my comp when i need to.)

So basically what laptops are good for gaming/decent for gaming? And any recomandations as to what screencards I should get for or what kind of processors. Is there anything I should avoid as the plague..operating systems? I have not been able to run any game that have come out the past three years on this comp and I am starting to get sick of it. So...please help!

Anything Alienware is good. Probably too expensive though :( .

Best I can recommend for that price for a laptop would be "Deep Breath", a Dell. Try there website and be sure to get XP pro as the operating system. Avoid vista laptops like the plague.

Problem with laptops is that it's nearly impossible to custom build your own unless you spend hours apon hours tracing down parts that are not sold seperately. Dell has decent driver support, and warrenties. The price and the hardware are average, but it's the best your going to get around the price range your wading through.

If your taking and computer courses though, you might have to get a Vista because it's more than likely a basic requirement to have the latest windows office, which you can install on XP for any non-hardware or operating system oriented classes. A hardcore computer major would have to get a Vista.

No need for me to have any vista, nor have I planned to. did check the dell page, and they seem to want to force it on anyone that buy anything from them

Dell are ok but also meh...
HP is ok.
Acer is worth a look (for home users only, not companies).
dont really trust toshiba anymore and Fujitsu Siemens aint really worth a look atm.
Alienware is shit for fags who have no clue on how to spend their money building a decent rig.

there's also new players like Lenovo, Asus,... lots of choice lately.

though you should remember that 20 to 25% of ALL laptops of ANY brands have to be sent back to the factory for repairs within the first 3 years. don't skimp on the guarantee shit...

and whatever you do, stay THE FUCK AWAY from Sony VAIOs.

not if he's a gamer. then he'd dual boot it. :)

bullshit. i don't know any serious ITer whose first choice would be Vista on a laptop.

and MS Office 2007 works just fine on XP... (and i don't know of any friggin' computer course that forces you to use MS Office? that's just silly)

eh, I wasn't refering to IT. I misspoke for i was thinking of a course that was for accountants that required Vista experience.

Hardcore Computer Major. yeah would use Unix and Linux.
