Gram.pl video-interview with Pete Hines

I'm with you, Eyenixon. The problem is, we're all starved for fresh Fallout 3 news, and right now there just ain't much of it out there. So the FO3 previews keep spouting the same things in different ways, and people keep making the same tired comments about it different ways. Still, I enjoy keeping up with the news, which is why I post here, even if the news is more of the same ol' same ol' rehashed stuff lately.

But yeah, at this point I'm just waiting on the game. There isn't much left that can sway my mind one way or the other aside from actually playing the damn thing.

That is really priceless coming from an employee of a company whose only work is giving a facelift and a lobotomy on the same game ever since Arena.

... the truth is, they are simply a one-trick pony and it's not even a good trick at that.
I don't usually do this, but that really deserves a QFT.

Seriously, how people can fail to see that it's Bethesda who can't evolve and progress is beyond me. They bought a license and developed a game based on it not only using the same engine from their previous game, but applying exactly the same design philosophies. How innovative!

There's a vibe coming across here like Bethesda's had the same exact staff since Arena, they don't. It's practically an entirely new team, and I totally blame the retards behind the helm right now for Bethesda's deconstruction.

Seriously, Daggerfall was a great game, let's not soil the name of the people who actually made some good games in the past by immediately saying that everything Bethesda has made is junk. Because seriously folks, how many have you actually played Wayne Gretzky's Hockey? Exactly.

Eh? No man, the vibe is more one of "Arena is really similar to Oblivion"

Mechanically, I s'pose that's correct, there's not a lot of breaks in Bethesda's design so they're a bit of a one-trick pony there. But they did change/evolve a lot of things since Arena and Daggerfall. A lot of it for the worse.

All I'm saying is that it wasn't necessarily the original team's fault for that.

The real point I want to get across is that the team that made Morrowind and Oblivion are lazy. They took the original design of Daggerfall and Arena and attempted to make their products more mass-appeal while simultaneously making it easier for them to develop the games.

If you got that vibe from my post that Kyuu quoted, I meant it more like what Brother None said. I know full well that this Bethesda is not the same of yore and that both Arena and Daggerfall were good games, hence the "lobotomy" there.

What irks me is that Pete and the whole of Beth's PR sling that innovation bullshit when they themselves were never about innovating anything at all - all they do is take their own franchise and strip it of depth while maintaining the same core gameplay that they now apply to Fallout, who all of a sudden NEEDS change (being 10 years old, while Arena is 14). That's the one trick this Bethesda, the lapdog-of-Zenimax-Bethesda, knows.

Just to clarify, I was only referring to Morrowind and Oblivion myself. I wasn't saying anything negative about Arena or Daggerfall.

However, the Bethesda post-Arena and Daggerfall-era has been responsible for devolution, certainly not evolution. Anyway, Seymour's got it covered so I'll not go on at length.
