GTA SA - Able to fix soundissues on STEAM version?

Edited title for clarity ...

Hello.

I have just submitted a query to Rockstar's support but this bug is annoying me.

I have encountered the so-called "Rain / Thunderstorm bug" where engine sounds and voice acting disappears and other sounds are falling in and out of the game while playing. VERY annoying.

Even more annoying is the fact that the offcial patch (1.01) for this seems to only work on retail versions due to its dependency on a locally stored .exe file.

I cannot keep playing unless I fix this - it is so annoying.

Anyone know a solution?

Huh? Steam has a locally stored EXE file. It's under steam\steamapps\common, or possibly steam\steamapps\username. There's a normal installed folder there, and most mods and patches work fine with Steam installs.

STEAM has an .exe file yes, but not GTA SA ... ?

I cannot find the folders you have named either ...

Yes it does. It's in GTA: SA's folder within the Steam folder.

They're relative to Steam's installed directory. For me that would be:
"O:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\grand theft auto iv"
for instance.

Also, I'm pretty sure Steam auto-applies any updates available.

Hmm.

Good and valid points, and my GTA SA main menu shows version 3.0 anyway so patch 1.01 probably won't do much ?? (all the posts on the net I have seen about this are from a couple of years back and they all claim the 1.01 patch sorts it out.

Don't understand why this bug has occurred now.

Edit:

No wonder I did not find my Steam files ...

F:\Games\Halflife 1\Programs\steam\games

It has put itself in the H1 folder since that was when I first registered to STEAM ...

Does not help me though as I cannot install patch and still have the bug even after turning off hardware acceleration in my control panel (another recommended solution)

You could always turn off sound and listen to music in the background.

Hehe, I could, but I like the sounds so it just takes away from the experience for me ...

Will see what Rockstar support says ...

I hate this bug, and to date I haven't been able to find a friggin' patch for it. Good luck though, if you find anything let me know.

San Andreas is a brilliant game in my opinion.
