This is what I'm working on when not making Mutants Rising

Hard West is a tactical combat game mixed with worldmap exploration and character development, set in a weird west setting. To give you a better reference, take XCOM combat, HOMM world map, sprinkle it on top with unique mechanics and then submerge in a wooden, Old West washtub full of gore and weirdness.

The game has been in the works for the past couple of months or so, and we're currently looking for help launching the project into full-blown production. For that, we've set up a Kickstarter campaign. If you like the project, we'll be super-grateful if you help spread the word. And if you're feeling generous, please back us - you get a Steam and a DRM-free download option for a mere $15 CAD (so that's actually cheaper than $15 USD).
Oh, and let me just brag a little that guys like Brian Fargo, Chris Avellone and Brother None have already supported the project, be it with Twitter messages or hard cash, or both :P

I'll be happy to answer your questions as they crop up. Have a good day and thanks for support :)

This looks highly impressive and seems to capture the Wild West vibe pretty effectively...but a few questions or concerns:

1) What "year" is the game set in....(ie: the high point of the Old West or it's declining moments)
2) When you say weird West, do you mean something more akin to Steampunk, or Cthulhu or something else entirely?
3) I'm guessing you play as a gunslinger, but do you have an option to play alongside the US Marshals, the US Army etc. or do you always play the Outlaw?
4) Will there be items outside of small arms, such as Gatling guns, field pieces etc?
5) Finally, depending on the time frame, will there be trains, early model automobiles etc?

When I see the words' "weird west" I immediately think of The Dark Tower novels and The Gunslinger & his Ka-Tet.

Heh I have been talking with some of my contacts how I really wished that a Weird West RPG was developed as that genre seems to be so under appreciated.
Didn't know others here on NMA felt the same.

a few questions or concerns:
1) What "year" is the game set in....(ie: the high point of the Old West or it's declining moments)

There are several scenarios in the game, and unless something changed that I'm not aware about, they may be set in various time periods of the Wild West, with a preference for the later era (1870+). Bear in mind that Hard West is not a pure "western" game - it has fantastical elements that could be considered as putting it in an 'alternate timeline', which allows us to mash things up a bit. You should not expect 100% historical accuracy.

2) When you say weird West, do you mean something more akin to Steampunk, or Cthulhu or something else entirely?

More like Deadlands or the Dark Tower, actually.

3) I'm guessing you play as a gunslinger, but do you have an option to play alongside the US Marshals, the US Army etc. or do you always play the Outlaw?

There will be several scenarios. In some, you play as an outlaw, in some, as a lawman.

4) Will there be items outside of small arms, such as Gatling guns, field pieces etc?

We have definitely been talking about Gatling guns, though I'd have to confirm whether they're still in (can't see why not though - they offer interesting tactical options and are amazing to look at). Not sure about bigger artillery though.

5) Finally, depending on the time frame, will there be trains, early model automobiles etc?

Unlikely, due to huge production costs these things involve (unless you mean static, non-interactive scenery representing trains or automobiles).
