Has a multiplayer option been considered?

Neo Nightkin

First time out of the vault
It might just be a crazy idea, but has any (skilled) programmer thought of adding a multiplayer option to fallout 1/2?
I seriously doubt it is possible to do, but hell, thought I'd ask anyway...

That could be great. A multiplayer FOR fallout 2 is a good idea. Because it will be only a patch, who have the fallout 2 cd can play on-line. Well, lets hope anyone be the good samarithan and do that great work for the fallout communities!

One more time... sorry the english

Actualy, that COULD be VERY fun.
Make it were if they ever meet in the world map, they might encounter eachother, and can type to talk or fight, maybe even team up.

I just think it'd be cool
make the shopkeepers have a LOT of money for scavenged supplies and were items like the NavCom parts either reappear in the locker after everyone leaves that level of V13, or to make it harder, there is ONLY one Nav Com, and people hunt eachother down looking for it.

It'd be VERY hard to do I bet, but VERY fun.

I was more thinking along the lines of small towns that refresh every new game.
You click multyplayer on the menu, and then a list of 'fresh' towns will be displayed and a list of towns that people are playing in.
Then if you choose a fresh town, you load into that town.
THEN, you can choose some kind of option that would allow you to put your town (and make up a name for it) in the list of online towns so other people can enter it as well.
It's kind of like diablo multyplayer.

I don't think it is easy at all but it could be very fun to duel with another character or something.
Maybe later, mods can be included so you can play as a super mutant and destroy a small town with fellow mutants.

I think the hardest part of making this would be to have everyones computer see other online players as NPCs.
But I don't think it is impossible.

I was thinking in another way... everyone will start in the vault 13. n the vault, could have, SHOPS, A QUEST MAKER (can be the son of a bitch of that oversee, sure, without talking head). So everyone can leave the vault, make the quest and back for the money to buy things in the shops lke armor, weapons...

You click multyplayer on the menu, and then a list of 'fresh' towns will be displayed and a list of towns that people are playing in.
but that idea is good too!

Yeah, but I think it'd be very difficult to have to world map work in multyplayer...
Not to mention the giant lag everyone would get.

IMO, it wouldn't be worth the effort required to add MP to the existing FO/FO2 binaries. You'd be much better off writing the engine from scratch like IanOut.

And that's just the start. All the scripts would pretty much need to be rewritten. There are several global and map variables that would need to be synchronized and may not even make sense in a multiplayer environment.

The real killer is that the scripts only consider one "dude_obj" (the player). Making that mp-safe could be a hell of a chore.

PS - no worries, I've got Assualt grade Phoenix implants...
