Hearts of Iron IV

Sonny, I Watched the Vault Bein' Built!
After loving Stellaris (game is great!) I'm interested in other Paradox titles. Hearts of Iron IV is coming out on June 6th (interesting release date). Anyone going to be playing this? What to expect based on previous entries in the series?

How historically accurate is this series? Thoughts?

There's some videos discussing politics and playthroughs of the game. It looks interesting. Wondering what the Paradox veterans here think.

I may look into it. But currently I will be getting FO2 and The Guild II on the 15th, which is when I graduate the 8th grade. [None of you care about my age I assume.]

For Chanukkah, I'm gonna get Civ VI, if not, then I might get this. :drunk:

The famous Darkest Hour mod, Kaiserreich, has officially declared they are porting their mod to HOI4. For those who don't know, It's about ahistorical world war 2 that takes place in a world where the German empire won the Weltkrieg and stayed an empire. Fascism never had chance to take root, and Germany became the equivalent of the British empire. France and Britain fell to Syndicalist revolts, the Russian empire remained, and USA stayed isolated.

It's got a massive timeline of its own with pages of background story for nations big and small, and special events that will give several nations the option to turn to the international socialism, the remnants of the Entate France and Britain hiding our in North Africa and Canada, join the Mitteleuropa alliance, or set out on their own destiny.

I might very well give this a shot.

I loved the hell out of HOI2 and it is the only game that I have truly modded, I tried to (and succeeded on a purely superficial level) create a "modern world"-game, where you could just pick up and play any modern country as of 2005 or something

I wasn't that big a fan of HOI3, because - and this is nitpickery! - all lower level administrative entities had the same visual shape. This put me off... :D I am a nitpick to these things, and there were other... shape-issues I had, as well as some minor things, such as
HOI2 included the Peru-Ecuador war
HOI3 seems not to have included it, which is a step back, and I don't like steps back.

I haven't checked out HOI4 any, but hopefully it has stepped forwards again.

The interface is disgusting and bloated, and the AI is retarded (feels like it was made for a WWI game, with frontlines prone to stalemates and random Gallipoli moments).

There is no indication of what the fuck is going on on the battlefield, you just see two dudes shooting at each other and a number between them that's red if you're losing and green if you're winning. I hope there's an option to turn off the 3d models.

Also, where the fuck is the MONEY in this game? Paradox just can't seem to get right the balance between money as the ONLY and ALL POWERFUL resource in the game like they had it in CK2 and EUIV, and NO MONEY AT ALL like in HOI4. How can we even talk of an in-game economy without money? All you need to trade is enough ships, I guess everyone is just giving you their shit for nothing.

After seeing this, I hope they never make a Victoria 3.

It looks like some of the old fans aren't happy with it but people new to paradox games will probably still find it very deep. I might pick it up if I ever have 3 entire days to learn the basics of it. So far Stellaris is satisfying, though Hearts of Iron IV looks more complex.

Yeah, those are the two things that turn me off Paradox games. The AI is often pretty stupid and/or suicidal, and combat is boring as hell. You just mash two sets of numbers together until the bigger set of numbers win. It's one of those games where peace is actually more fun than war, but I'm not sure how that's supposed to work out in a WW2 game.

It's why I prefer the likes of Total War: yes, the campaign is less deep, but at least the battles don't put me to sleep.

sorry, but does total war does require you to manage supply line? choice of commander that affect how the wars goes? reading of the season situation so you dont trapped in raputitsa just like wehrmacht ostheer does? its not just mish the number together, its contain strategy in there. i know why you might call it boring, based on your comparative to total war. this is not just strategy, its Grand strategy. it made to appeal those who like alternate history or just want to study it for general.

to @Illuminati confirmed, what games do you think could best the paradox one? and what paradox games you think is the best or 'immersive'?

personally, i feel fine with Heart of iron 4. i more disappointed with stellaris, maybe because it was experimental first entry for paradox.

Victoria 2 is by far their best game. The only one where the end-game feels like actually having brought your country through that period of history rather than just made a blob on the map. But when it comes to combat, I liked the EU4 fortification systems and sieges.

Skimmed over these kinds of grand strategy games in steam, and it seems like all of them get mixed to bad reviews overall. Is there one game that has a consensus of being great?

in fact, the "gran dstrategy" term is never exist. it was paradox that invent the whole genre. so, as result all genre all getting very positive review

Darkest Hour, not only is it fun in it's own right but it has a vibrant modding community allowing you to play during the Cold War and Interbellum period.
