Don't all partition managers support extended partitions? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't extended partitions simply non-bootable partitions? Furthermore they aren't the individual small non-bootable partitions, but the whole chunk of space that is not bootable.

FDisk support them, so does any other type of partitioner. I'd say stick with Partition Magic, as it is the best I've seen.

Well, fips doesn't, and what do you mean by all? I've only seen 3 non-destructive ones for now (fips, PM, DiskDrake). What others do you know?

I may be wrong, but I think no.

Uh, I think that was my mistake, I forget to say that I need a non-destructive one.

Partition Manager...

What the heck does that oh-mighty PM have that is making everyone talk about it?

I mean... There is no magic on partitioning a hard disk! It's just dividing a HD in several parts!

It was the first partitioning utility to repartition a hard drive without destroying the data inside the partitions. With Fdisk, the drive's contents were deleted when you repartitioned. With Partion magic you can move your partitions, create new ones, combine partitions, delete old ones, or squeeze them between others and not lose your data.

RE: Partition Manager...

Well, FDisk can be very handy sometimes. A friend of mine got a virus wich destroyed his winsock. And just re-installing Windows didn't work because he had a compressed disk installed (Windows crashed at the "detecting hardware" part). So he tried to format his harddrive, but that didn't work either, because he had to "disconnect" his compressed drive first.
So I took FDisk, created a small partition, and that compressed disk was gone (wich was exactly what he wanted).

Nifty feature... I think it could come handy sometime. *checks PM's website...* What?! $70??? Hahahah.......
I just don't think it's great stuff (not thaaat useful), but that is my humble opinion ;)

For the time and headache it saves it's probably worth it. Think about it: To resize a partition using traditional methods would require deleting *both* partitions, resizing both, and then formatting them for the correct file system.

That's why you don't compress hard drives. :)

Drive space is cheap. IBM will soon be selling a 100 GB hard drive at 2 megs cache and 7200 RPM for only $100. It's designed to crush the competition. THAT is the kind of capitalism I like.

GIMME NOW NOW NOW I NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

That BETTER be available in England or I'll cry.

RE: Partition Manager...

It would have came in handy the time I installed linux decided I needed disk space more than Linux and I had to create a second partition. I was downloading it once but the site got took down before I got finished on my crappy 56K modem.
