Hilarious Top 50 'games' list from Guinness

mortiz

Still Mildly Glowing
That was compiled using "their initial impact, lasting legacy, how fun they were to play". The funny thing is it doesn't include any PC games. I really really hope they've excluded PC games just to create a PC game only list because otherwise the list would have been populated almost entirely by PC games.

Yes, that's right folks, if you didn't know that this list was excluding PC because I guess they aren't counted as "proper games" these days, you'd come away with the impression that Halo was more influential than Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Hell, for a console only list this is awful.

3. Grand Theft Auto

...

Didn't have to look all that far.

When they say GTA I think they mean GTA 3, not the original on the PC, which wasn't even that influential and didn't sell well at all.

If they mean GTA 3 and onwards they would have said so. Considering they separately rank GTA VC and GTA SA in the list, I would say GTA means GTA.

They mean GTA 3, guarenteed, otherwise this list wouldn't have GTA 3 which is the game that revived Rockstar, how could they NOT put GTA 3 on this list?

Did you mean PC - only games are excluded, because there are many games that are also on pc in that list. Bioshock, Tomb raider, Cod4, orange box, ff7 and so on..

Well, Half-Life came out on the consoles as well and that's not included so it's not just PC only games that are excluded, it's games where the primary release platform was PC.

Games that had parallel releases on Console and PC are included it would seem. (The Orange Box)

This kind of lists are stupid anyway. I don't agree with any of them on this list.

Quite possible that mortiz is right.
We already see the signs of the dreaded day when Fallout 3 will appear as Fallout in such lists, so...

Every gamer can make himself a "Top 50 Games of all time" list, the thing is that every one has a different taste. For example, in my opinion the best survival horror game is "Nocturne" but many people haven't even heard the name and will probably disagree with me.

Super Mario Kart is not better than Tetris. Nothing is better than Tetris, Tetris is the only game that could be considered art, because it is perfect.

I hear Tetris was supposed to feature an alternate evil path that got cut due to time constraints.

i think they went by "fun" to be multiplayer-interactive.

in that case, the PC loses horribly in favor of consoles/arcades with multi-player multi-view ( think goldeneye ) where people can play not only together, but next to each other.

PCs just dont have that. the last time we had anything close to that was "hot seat" games.

With a null modem, you can play opposite of each other! It's very interactive.
