Horror cRPGS?

RPGenius

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Was wondering if anyone knew of any good horror cRPGS? Not so much "Gah! Zombie apocalypse!", but more along the lines of investigation/supernatural and generally creepy. I've played Bloodlines, but good as it is (and it is very good), I feel it doesn't fit this criteria, as you're a monster yourself.

Sorry for vaguery, but can anyone give me a hand on this one?

This was the only game, Shadow Tower Abyss, that seemed to fit the horror rpg theme you wanted. Unfortunately this game is for the PS2, and it does look like the development was -erm-
terminated ?

Do you want a horror themed rpg game ? or horror game with some rpg element?

There's Call of Cthulhu series and then there's the Dark Corner of the Earth game.

There's plenty of adventure games, though, that have horror themes from the game The Blackstone Chronicles over Darkfall: The Journal to Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened or a just released game like Lost Crown or the upcoming Dracula: Origen.

I don't seem to recall any crpgs being horror crpgs other than Bloodlines. If there is one, it might be a very old one, I fear.
(but then again, I could be wrong?)

Undying's a great horror game, don't get me wrong. But I'm looking specifically for a cRPG, rather than anything else. Know I'm being a bit finnickity about this. SOrt of a case of me being a big fan of horror gaming, and a big fan of cRPGs. (Which is just as well, considering the forum I'm on). Was just wondering if anyone knew if someone had combined the two well.

The survival horror games closest to an RPG I've played are STALKER and System Shock 2.

None of them cRPG's. Um.

You could try a Castlevania title - they usually have all of the horror monsters, plus RPGs stats, level upping, and a multitudiness of weapons/armors/items. Okay, I'm just kidding. I know that's not what you are looking for.

But what you are describing sounds like it is in short supply these days. Most cRPGs only have horror elements (e.g. one quest to clear out hordes of undead, ghosts, etc. and then back to chasing orcs and dragons). Like the above post said you might have better luck checking through adventure games or older RPGs. Google "home of the underdogs" if you want to search through the troves of abandonware, but the graphics might be too primitive for your tastes.

I guess you could always look for or create a mod. NeverWinterNights supposedly had mods of all shapes and sorts. Good luck.

I didn't know there were any. When I hear "survival horror" I always say Silent Hill. So... Silent Hill
