It's a simple enough question, I'm running XP in an attempt to wait out vista, and 7 till they fix all the horrid bugs, and I was wondering if there was any way to change these two things without having to download a file from some hacking site that I have no trust in, that could completely mess up my computer? I'm asking the NMA community, because I have so far not seen a way to do it without downloading a program from a shoddy site.

What exactly is wrong with windows 7? I run it on my main machine and I am in love with it.

What you're looking for John, is something called :
UXTheme multipatcher
once you have installed that, you can use any program like stardock bootskin, or assign your own loading screen however it's done.
I been happily using the 'please stand by' image from FO for few years now. which nma hosts in file section here.

Yes to both. Never had any problems related to the use of this, and to be honest, wouldn't recommend it , if it had.
Using third party visual style doesn't need any program(like windowblinds) to apply. Double click that shit and it'll put it on

I find that editing the boot-screen can prevent you from being able to install certain Windows Updates on XP (mainly Service Pack 3).
Otherwise, TuneUp Utilities would have to be my favourite program - not only does it visual and performance tweaks, it has a series of cleaning and defragmenting programs and many other 'tune up' tweakables. And is very comprehensible + everything can be easily reset.
