How do I extract image from Fallout 1 & 2 ??

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
Is there a way to "get" the three map or the vault lvl in vault-city
( not the green map) ??
And how do i get the world map, without any location, of Fallout 1 & 2?
 
For Fallout 2: Install the mapper and open the map? (edit: or do you mean the image of the general map? If yes, you have to extract the frms from the master.dat and open it with a programm that can read frm images. Its somewhere here in the files section.)

The worldmaps of Fallout 1 and 2 are in the master.dat. You need the special dat extractor for Fallout 1 to extract the interface (?) files. It is somewhere here in the files section too. For Fallout 2, there is the Datman programm, with that you can open the master.dat..

But: The Fallout 1 Map has the town marks already on it. So you will not get the "blank" map.
 
Thx but how du i extract de frms?? I use DATManl.exe to open Master.dat but all I don't find the frm of the vault of Vault-City or Worldmap... All I find about maps are .map or .gam files.
I'm a bit lost.. :?
 
There is a tool - it´s executable has the name dat2.exe - I guess it is this one.

...use 'dat2.exe -x d /fo2 master.dat' (though I´m not 100% sure about the right params, just check it with 'dat2.exe --help')

...and the whole content of master.dat will be extracted into the dir 'fo2' - then you can browse it with a filebrowser. You´ll find dirs with names like 'maps', 'tiles', 'walls' and so on ;-)

I recommend DAT Explorer by Dims, it's easy to use and quite effective DAT unpacking utility, very suitable for people who are about to start modding. You can find it here.

I try all of that but I still can find the frm I need: World Map and inside the vault (13, 15 or Vault City)... :? I cherch most of the art folder for frm...
I open with the mapper some map but how do I "create" a image file with the .map file?? :shock:

Still looking and trying but for now no results... :?:
 
Wait... what files do you mean exactly? The big travel-worldmap, the maps of the locations (with the small green triangles) or do you mean the overview of the maps? If you mean the last: there are no frms for this. This green lined overviews will be created automatically when you move the player on the ingame map. You can make screenshots from it with F12.

If you´re looking for the worldmap itself then have a look into "INTRFACE" (FO" master.dat!)

There you´ll find "WRLDMP02.frm, WRLDMP03.frm" and so on...

I don´t know what you mean with "inside the Vault ..." either - so Lexx is right: Please post a screenshot.

I jus convert frm to tag and creante a big map with photoshop...

For the "inside of the vault" I mean where we click, interact,;but just the lvl. I want to print the three lvl of the vault withou any critter.

Heh... okay, got it now. :-D

I guess the next step is very easy - just download FIFE and load the vaultcity map - then change the elevations by hitting "e" and make your screenshots. :)

By using FIFE´s advantage of higher resolutions, you should finish this job a lot faster as by working with the original FO2-engine.

I work very well :ok: but when I open de map, the door open and close very fast! Is there a way to stop that or not :?:
 
Mmh... good question, I never really went that deep into the FO-Aspect of FIFE ...

Try this:

- open fife.config
- search "Ruleset= ...."
- delete everything after "=" so that you get "Ruleset="
- save it & run FIFE again
 
Chewie; with the modif the door still open/close but it's that important... I will accept this and make my screenshot.

But do you know how to remove the critters on the map in FIFE??

The World Map sections have the screenshots of entire maps, but unfortunately, most of them are annotated already.

They are injected by a lua script through the asm scripting host. That´s why I told you to modify fife.config. Next try would be:

Search content/scripts/ for all files with "ruleset" in the name - and delete the content (or use lua comments : --[[ ]] to disable the scripts temporarly).

If that doesn´t work, we´ll have to ask barra if disabling critters is even possible.

It´s really wired.. there was a time critters hadn´t shown up because of a bug - now they are present and we want to disable them... XD
 
Hmm AFAIK the door animations aren't caused by ruleset scripting ATM but are hardcoded.

I would have to take a look at the code but I'm quite certain that adjustig the ruleset won't help in this case.

Nope, atm we´re talking about the critters ... I guess the doors are "hardcoded" like the pal-animations..?
 
Hi Thx for the info... I was very busy :shock:

For now I'm doing screen shot and rebuild map of the vault with photoshop.

For the World map I have not yet begin ton coonvert frm files with redview... but soon i will do it!! :)

Still looking for the critters but I make some mod for now.
