I Hate Preoria!

Hellbane

First time out of the vault
FO Tactics is so linear! I wish I could just bypass Preoria as I could if it were in the other FO games. It is a nightmarish unreal place bearing no resemblance to anything on this earth I know of! Whenever I consider playing FOT I think immediately of this idiotic place & feel persuaded to do something more worthwhile! Ugh! Makes me want to vomit!

I also hated it... until actually getting the hang of it (overdosing the topside turrets is fun!).

While I admit that the mission is a bit tricky it's not the worst possible one. The ghoul town with the bomb was worse. In Peoria you can take your time and clear out the whole thing with two or three good men and two more at the switches. You turn on the power when needed and then you turn it off. It's all a matter of beating the system.
Of course the linearity of Tactics is way beyond annoying but it is what it is. And it's preferable to BOS...

I Guess I'm Just Impatient

Shortly after I came to Beta while recently playing again, I deliberately wandered over much of the map trying to get those encounters I read about. I only met one merchant & he had no Pancors or any other auto shotguns to barter - do they have things you can steal not available by bartering? Do you steal from it from their guards? A walkthru suggested you could defeat the turrets by melee with rippers etc. I tried that to no effect - the only way I could defeat the turrets above was with 3 psychos but I only had enough for one. (Oh, for a FOT inventory editor!!!) Another walthru said if you wandered around Macomb(?) you could bump into citizens being fought by raiders etc & the citizens would be carrying Neosteads but I never encountered that either.......

Hearsay... had Per had the patience to make a guide for FOT this kind of rumors would have been nipped in the bud. Besides, it's a no brainer: you can only hit those turrets when they are open (and actually have a chance to damage them). When they are open they dish out way more damage than you can either deal or take so any attempt to destroy them when you get the mission is nothing short of suicide. I once left a sniper (Scope, chick you start with)with a hunting riffle and all the ammo I could fit into her inventory just beyond the reach of the turrets inside, on the long hallway and left her there for hours, went to school, came back, ate... only to find her out of ammo and the turrets intact. So IMHO the only reasonable way to get past said turrets is to outrun them in RT. And it's not that hard... it just takes a decent computer and some coordiantion. Easy... :D

I was able to kill those turrets with multiple units with hunting rifles just out of the reach of the turrets... took awhile but it was worth it. Each turret had over 600 large energy cells. Worth quite a bit of script in the game, or just useful to have during later missions.

And how much xp did they give? 1200 energy cells early on are pretty much useless if you don't have an energy weapon to use the with and that means those weird tech guys... I forgot their name.... and they do have enough ammo on them. I can't remember if you can buy a laser rifle before the first robot mission... only played it twice and the second time I played it because I had a better computer and I bought a PC games magazine with FO: Tactics as a bonus free game...

There are citizens with Neoseteads a bit south of Bunker Alpha - I remember farming them until I got 77 of shotguns :D .
