I just want access to all recruits

RGavial

First time out of the vault
i've looked around for this one simple alteration for hours now...

All I want to do is have access to all of the recruits from the beginning of the game...

How do I do it?

go to program files then 14 degrees east,then fallout tactics then core then tables(you'll have needed to unzipped everything you read about when looking around.) and go to campaign.txt open it and scroll to the bottom where it says"//==============================================================================
// RECRUITS POOL DEFINITIONSthen change {mission01;add;entities/recruits/hm11.ent} into{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hm11.ent},for all the recruits you want.it should work from what i've gathered over these past few days.if not tell me and i'll do it myself on mine to find out.

you go it working or got it to unzip? do you have 1.27? it came with the editor for stuff.

Ok, I have entities_0.bos and i've found the campaign.txt in the tables folder and i've seen the recruit pool and edited it, but it's not saving any of my changes...I click save and update the zip file - and when I reopen it the changes are there - but the game itself isn't reflecting the changes..

Yeah i have 1.27

Should I do this in the editor instead?

I've done this, to insert Riddick in the starting party
// RECRUITS POOL DEFINITIONS

recruitsPool = {
// tagName;operation;path
//This is the starting squad
{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hm01.ent}, //Male Stealth
{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hm05.ent}, //Male SMG
//{mission00;add;entities/recruits/riddick.ent}, //Night vision guy
//{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hf03.ent}, //Female Sniper
{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hf11.ent}, //Female Hand to Hand

The ones with the // in front were the starting characters, I moved Stitch down to Mission 1 recruit pool and replace him with riddick.

Why isn't it working?

EDIT: Oh, Do i have to edit the first map and place them into it?? I figured since i was messing with these text files manuall i could avoid the editor...

yeah if you want them to start in your party place them on brahmin wood using the level editor and make sure theplayer index is set to 1.(the player index is when you hit f4 click on them and scroll down in the box until you see player index.it's small so pay attention.)

Okay, but If i just want them in the recruits pool, then editing that text file and re-inserting it would be sufficient??

EDIT: Still not working, i opened the zip mis-core_A.bos - and extracted MISSION01, and made the changes and saved them, then reinjected the map back into the zip and still nothing...

What's the deal...

Sigh DO NOT EVER PUT ANYTHING BACK IN THE ZIPS! The game reads whats on your hard drive before it looks at the bos files so once you've edited things leave them unpacked.

The campaign text file is just that a text file, it's meaningless to the game as is, the game doesn't need it and doesn't use it. Once you've made your changes you'll need to extract the bos.cam (from Mis-Main_0.bos) to core\campaigns, then in FT Tools open up the cam file in the campaign editor and go tools/import recruits and save.

Alternately open up the first bunker in the level editor, press F7, bring up the triggers and look for the trigger 'CVAR_M01_COMPLETE - Mission 01 Complete'. In the actions copy the line about adding recruits tagged 01 etc several times and change 01 to 02, 03 etc etc.

Now open the entity editor and load up every recruit and change their rank to initiate, otherwise you won't see them any sooner than in the unmodded game.

Oh my what have I come to? Helping munchkins powergame. :?

i just read over it again and i see your problem.BIG nono.

There wouldn't be a need to extract the first mission (or bunker) anyway, as the patch already puts a new version in core\campaigns\missions\core. Which would overwrite any changes even if you did repack the file successfully (which can be done but not using winzip).

Okay, nothing I do is working here...let me get this straight...i'll probably reinstall...but first

The FOLDERs in C:/whatever/fallout tactics/core are places you can put things to to take priority over the .BOS files to make changes...?

In other words, BOS.cam is inside of Mis_Main_0.bos , and if I take BOS.cam out, modify it, and place it in C:/whatever/fallout tactics/core/campaigns , it will use it instead....now is this for the main campaign, or do i select "custom campaign?" from the single player menu. I assume since im extracted the campaign and just editing a copy - it's considered custom...?

Secondly, All of you have told me how to do it, but you've all assumed I know one extra step that I don't seem to...I want the easiest way to get all of the recruits...If that means waiting til i beat the first mission - fine that's ok, i'll beat it....

Just someone tell me step by step what file to edit and how, and where to put it so I have all of the recruits in the bunker when I get back from Mission 1...

ok i will say it step by step. in the CORE folder you should see a file named gui_0.bos. open up wizip and drag it in there. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE FILES BY FOLDERS TICKED. if you look in the view tab you'll see it. unzip it,then do the same for entities_0.bos and mis-main0.bos
that should allow you to use everything and play withe entity editor if you wish. if you want to play with the level editor you need to extact tiles_o.bos. i hope this helped. a good help is that place i linked to. another one is herehttp://jj86tutorials.stgfc.com/more_tutorials.htm#6 i couldn't find a way there from the home page so i figure you can't either. then again i might just suck at navigating webpages.

Yes.

Unless you've renamed it you can just start a new campaign as normal.

You have been given step by step instructions. But I guess we assumed you had some initative and would experiment until you hit on the magic forumla, oh well guess we were wrong. Here we go again the very easiest route.

1 extract campaign.txt (from entities_0.bos) to anywhere. Print out the recruits section.

2 run FT Tools and click on level editor.

3 load map, 'File/open', then in the pop up window click up then double click on campaigns, missions, core and select bunker01.mis.

4 Press F7 and in the bottom lefthand side of the screen click on the button 'Triggers'.

5 In the pop up window scroll down until you see the trigger 'CVAR_M01_COMPLETE - Mission 01 Complete' double click to edit it.

6 In the new pop up window click on action, select the action that says either 'Modify recruits tagged mission01 in the RecruitPool list' or 'Modify recruits tagged mission00 in the RecruitPool list' then duplicate it 12 times.

7 edit each of these actions (one at a time) and change mission01/00 to mission03, mission03a etc as per the list you printed out from the campaign.txt

8 save the map and exit the level editor.

9 open the entity editor and on the far top right corner click the button 'change dir...' now find the directory your recruits are in. It should be something like c:\program files\14 degrees east\fallout tactics\core\entities recruits. And then select any recruit, now the right hand side of the screen will show the list of all the recruits.

10 go through each recruit and under the tab race change their rank to initiate.

11 save and exit.

12 now go start up a new game and wank yourself silly with all your munchkin men.

Not really I was refering to him playing with all his recruits.

Besides powergamers bring out the worst in me.

Edit.

@Rhys your email addy bounces higher than my cheques.

But your problem is as follows.

The tagname in this instance refers to the entries in the campaign text not the individual's name.

In the campaign.txt (extract from enitites_0.bos to core\tables) search for recruitspool. Then look at the example;

//tagName;operation;path

// Starting Pool

{mission00;add;entities/recruits/hf01.ent}

So the first part mission00 is the tagname, when you copied the original trigger it would of said mission00 or mission01 so now you've got to go through the list in the campaign.txt and take a note of all the mission numbers.

Recruits Pool

I am having problems with the recruit pool, I want to be able to recruit who I want and when i've tried using the level editor but with no succces can someone guide me in how to set up the recruit pool the way you want all i've managed to do is make it so no recruits are available after the first mission.
