Inside the Vault and Metro 2033 deal

WorstUsernameEver

But best title ever!
With New Vegas just released, the guys at Bethblog took the opportunity to do another Inside the Vault feature with an Obsidian developer. This time it's Jorge Salgado, known by most of those familiar with the Bethesda modding scene as Oscuro.
What’s your job at Obsidian?

Since joining Obsidian in November 09, I’ve worked on Fallout: New Vegas as an Area Designer.
Also, Metro 2033's price is -66% on Steam! The deal is only for today, so hurry!

And did a good job on mods.

But can't say his work impressed me here. New Vegas' map layouts aren't exactly well-done from a gaming standpoint, though they're visually well-designed at times.

1) Oscuro is awesome and that was probably the most interesting Inside ever.

2) Metro is a great first person shooter and very much worth buying for people that liked Stalker series and do not mind more linear game.

Yes, XTREMEly linear and XTREMEly short(like 12-15 hours) but also XTREMEly beautiful and pretty damn fun.

I would consider 12-15 hours extremely short compared to Fallout 3 and New Vegas (can't recall how long Stalker gamers were). But compared to most popular console titles 12-15 hours is extremely long!

And as far as area designs go, New Vegas looks pretty, but I don't feel like just running around and exploring it as much as I did with Fallout 3.

I don't get it. What is it about this game that people don't like when compared to Fallout 3? There were locations in FO3 I didn't find until my second(more thorough) playthrough, 'cause you're only about 10-15 hours in before you're level 20(I had FWE on the second playthrough so you didn't level up so damn fast). What is the incentive to roam through recycled subways and often story-void wasteland locations when you're already the max level? Not only does New Vegas let you keep expanding your character, but I would constantly find locations that began quest notes when I started digging into them.
I know it's a matter of opinion, but when I see someone say the atmosphere or story in Fallout 3 was better, I really want to pull my hair out.

I don't run and around and explore as much in New Vegas because the rest of the game is actually good, unlike Fallout 3, where running around exploring was pretty much the best thing that game had to offer; its not that exploring was better in that game, more that the rest of it was much worse.

since vegas offers uniquie weapons and content I think even exploring is more rewarding there then in Fallout 3.

I guess it's a case of "Too Much To Do". I don't do much exploring in New Vegas because I have my hands full all the time, if it's not a quest, then it's a companion.

And while doing this, you explore the world. :p

I like it much more this way. The game is sending me around and there is often never the need to go out on your own. It is just more motivating for me.

I mean, in Fallout 3, I was just running around, blasting away stuff somewhere in the world with a rocket launcher. So far, I haven't done randomly senseless killing in New Vegas...
