Installation order question related to Error Loading Cities

First time out of the vault
Greetings forum,

my second topic so far, I'm so proud. I posted this under general section because I wasn't sure where to place it considering the wild nature of my problem. So into the business.

I installed Fallout 2, then Killap's RP (v1.2) and finally Mash's FO2 High Resolution Patch. Everything worked fine, I played for awhile and praised the wastes for such men exist.

Well of course I got greedy and WANTED MORE! :twisted: So I wandered to the forums and started soaring and searching. "Ahh, Timeslip you old dog! Me want better, me want more! Me download FO2 Engine Tweaks."

And me cries. Before the game starts, it hits me with an error: "wmAreaInit: Error Loading Cities" :cry:

Well after some searching I found Shadowbird's City Limit Patch 2, downloaded and installed it on Fallout 2 (because the mapper2.exe was nowhere to be found). And it works again! :cool:

However I noticed from the starting screen that the version of the game has changed back to 1.02 so the City Limit Patch modifies more or less the games' exe.

The big question is: what did I do wrong or did I do anything wrong? Am I now missing some new content or updates/fixes or anything because patching the .exe file after Killap's patch?

Thank you for your awnsers,
M out.

The RP already includes sfall, albeit a somewhat older version. When you tried to install the new version it overwrote the RP's copy of ddraw.ini with the default one, which contains some settings which are incompatible with the RP. I suggest you use the little green search button near the top of the screen. This problem has come up plenty of times before, along with a list of exactly which lines need changing back.

You'll also need to remove the city patch again. sfall includes its functionality now, and the two wont play nicely together.

Thank you, like suggested I did some searching and whoa boy it took me some time to shake it out from ~ 150 posts but I found it. So all it takes is to change the value of 'CitiesLimitFix' from 0 to 1 (in ddraw.ini)? Found this from Fallout 2 Restoration Project discussion.

No, there's far more lines than that.

Code:
WorldMapFPS=30
WorldMapEncounterRate=30
WorldMapSlots=21

VersionString=FALLOUT II 1.02.25  RP 1.2

DialogueFix=1
CitiesLimitFix=1

OverrideArtCacheSize=1

The important ones are CitiesLimitFix (fallout will crash on startup without it,) OverrideArtCacheSize (epa elevators may crash without it,) and WorldMapSlots (Some of the new map locations wont appear in the travel bar without it.)

Edit: You could always have just compared the ddraw.ini in the RP with your new one, if you didn't want to search. :P

Thank you! :) Where did you find this stuff anyway?

Well.. sometimes you just want to make it the hard way - just for the pain of it - and the relieve afterwards ;)

Edit: Sadly enough, I found the source of this precious information (Fallout2 High Resolution Patch -thread) AFTER searching from all the wrong places (RP thread, Engine Tweaks thread etc). Ah, life! Thank you Timeslip, you are still an old dog.
