Is Wasteland 2 going to be hex grid or square grid?

It is probably square grid based. Last time I checked, working with hex' is a pain in the arse. Plus, it isn't really needed anymore nowadays anyway.

I prefer hex grid over square...
What did FO: Tactics use?
What else if not grid based?

But tactics used square grids, didn't it? It's just so much easier to work with and especially with 3d, you can have whatever direction for critters anyway and aren't limited to the grid sides.

Probably square yeah, it seems very hard to implement hex grid on 3d. Age of decadence was suppose to be hex but they had to switch to square because it was too hard to do in 3d.
But I really don't see why a turn based game should have to use 3d, 2d is obviously better. Gamplay matters more than graphics... that's what made fallout 2 great, gameplay...

I prefer hex, more natural and intuitive.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown doesn't use any grid if iirc, I think there's just a limit to the movement distance or something along those lines. Haven't followed it particularly closely though.

Yeah, free movement is the alternative. It just measures distance rather than number of hexes/squares. It works, but I prefer grid-based.

Distance based is kind of wonky, although I have fond memories of the awesome Silent Storm. It had a nearly perfect implementation.
