Draft all the poor kids in the Moscow slums, send im into Chechnya to get killed fighting Chechen rebels for the current Russian goverment.

That isn't funny in context...because they already do that.
If you fail to go to university or get a job after school, then the Russian government can conscript you. This is much more common than you would think. You can be called up, they train you, give you a gun and send you to Chechnya. The young fighters there are not paid and consequently have to loot villages and rob people's homes. There is little order and most of the poor guys are constantly drunk with vodka, in an attempt to escape their reality. Everyone hates them and they don't usually last very long, there just kids after all. The terrible conditions cause extreme psychological problems leading to high incidents of attrocoties, massacres and crimes. Because there is so much competition in Moscow, slum kids without connections are pretty much walking dead.
With regards to the hostage crisis, this a horrific situation, unprecedented, as they are threatening kids directly. The heartless bastards have shot several parents trying to get to their children, and they will blow the whole place if anyone tries to intervene.
They are screwed, the dose of the gas they used before kills children so they can't use it. If they send in the troops they lose them all. I don't know the result of the meeting, but the UN Security Council is considering the issue.
It is an impossible situation, as the Chechyens just keep getting pummeled by the army, leading to more brutalised Islamic children joining the fight of their fathers. If Moscow abandons Chenya they might start to lose even more territory, as well as international prestige. But they can afford to gain political adavantage from throwing unproductive kids into the meatgrinder in Chechnya.

Damn it, guys, stop joking about this. Hasn't anyone seen the footage yet? I'm watching it right now and I'm fucking shocked. Naked children covered in blood everywhere. It's like a goddamn massacre. At least it's over (or so I heard), but how many casualties will there be this time? And it's children, people. Don't make fun of that.

I hope this doesnt spark a firestorm, but would the Russian withdrawal from Chechnya solve the problem? I heard they did initially and they still had problems with crime and terrorism crossing the border.
I used to read the news every day about 45 minutes when I lived in Los Angeles, but when I moved I stopped and have been sorta behind in world events. It seems all you guys are vigilant...good work.

no food, no water, probably pretty cold gymnasium, half naked and being threathened by some wackos with automatic rifles and bombs.

Just for the sake of argument...the gymnasium wasn't cold. It was in fact sweltering, which is why you see pictures of most of the children with clothing off. It was too hot to keep on.
