Kotor 2?

First time out of the vault
I played the first one and enjoyed it a lot. I was going to buy the second but I've read nothing but bad reviews for it. I'm planning on picking up a new game to keep me entertained for spring break, so any suggestions of something good that I should get my hands on? And is KOTOR 2 as bad as it's being reviewed?

It's as good, if not better, than the first but it's full of bugs and clearly got rushed. A lot of missing content, hastily ended or summed up plotlines, unsatisfying ending, etc. If you really liked the first one it's worth picking up though. One thing with user reviews you have to keep in mind is that the majority of the time hyperbole overrides reason - ie, a few disappointing features and they'll tell you that everything in the game sucks just because they're so disappointed they don't want to mention the positives. I'm not saying that KOTOR2 was great, just that it's not as bad as it's made out to be by fans (assuming you liked the first one, that is).

If you liked the first game I'm pretty sure you're gonna like the sequel as well. It's basically more of the same with a few added features which IMO only make the game better than the first one.

Sure, it has it's flaws, but all in all I'd say it's actually better than the first one. If you enjoyed the first one a lot, as you say, you'd be cheating yourself if you didn't play this one.

"a lot more dark aswell."

No it isn't. People say this yet there is no proof of this.

"A lot of missing content,"

Really not that much more than the original. Afterall, they both had each a planet cut, both had their endings cut and changed. KOTOR1 just did a better job (probably because time was given) cleaning up any mess from the cuts.

Overall, I thought KOTOR2 was good. The story was as good. The role-playing was about the same though the use of skills was MUCH improved from the first one.

Biggest problems (other than bugs, of course) was that the combat was even easier, and you were way too often forced to play npcs instead of being allowed to ROLE-PLAY your own character...

Heh, yes.
The ending was mangled to all hell.

And the combat... sheesh!

Exile: Whoa, close one.

If you are looking for RPGs, try Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines. Its like a cross between Deus Ex and Fallout. Just make certain you have a good machine. Beyond that, I've been playing Rome: Total War lately and thinks its pretty good, all things considered. Then again, I don't play that many strategy titles.

But, if you liked the first KotOR, then you probably want to get the second, even though its more of the same with more bugs and a rushed ending.

I already own Vampire, thanks for the suggestion though. Might check out Rome, too. I might also just browse around and look for something good in addition to other games, after all, I've got another quarter of college to keep myself occupied in...
thanks for the advice everybody

Just a thought- maybe there should be an ongoing thread somewhere about new good games coming out- I know it kinda happens on its own anyway, but I think having the advice of the fallout community would be helpful when I'm shopping for new games

The KOTOR II is too short. The environment all looks the same as the first one, nothing really new. The story wasn't as good as the first one i think, however you have more options of interaction with you party members. Definitely have to play it at least once just because it is a KOTOR series and it is a StarWars game :D But like most RPGs today, KOTOR maps are extremely small, storyline is extremely linear.

yeah that pretty much sums up the "great bountyhunter" action.

aah Deus Ex, that brings up so much good memories.Atmosphere, Dialogue, Stuff-You-Could-Find-And-Than-Bash-People-With, Story, Plot Twists. It is truly sad that Deus Ex 2 does not start on my computer correctly.Bloodlines was fun, only really annoying part was when i had to beat up those two-legs-crippled-fleshcraft-creatures in legions.
