LaRouche funtime

So, I've had this crazy lazy-ass slacker friend who just came back from a two year trip around the world, trying to sell me this whole Lyndon LaRouche economics theory. I don't have the time or energy to read and learn much about it, other than what it says on wikipedia. And most information about it seems to be pretty corrupt. So far, I've learned it's some kind of 2012-ish credit safety net plan for banks to prevent the upcoming economical apocalypse. What? I didn't know the World was going to end.

In all seriousness though, can someone please provide me with unbiased counter-arguments, and explain what the whole thing is about?

I don't know that much about economics, and don't really care either. I'm more of a "let's get things done instead of making up silly theories because we're too lazy to adapt to modern society" kind of guy.

I haven't a clue, but it looks the dude is full of shit. No scientific publications, a lot of controversy, and his main economic claim to fame is that he 'predicted' the financial crisis.

There are two reasons why this isn't impressive. The first is that many, many, many people predicted it. He isn't special in that regard.
The second reason is that he's been saying it since the '90s. So instead of saying 'he correctly predicted the crisus!' you should be saying 'he falsely predicted it for years until finally, for once, he got it right'!

From briefly looking at his economic views, his main point seems to be that the basis of the economy is production and that any form of speculation destroys that basis.

The problem then is that it's harder for high-risk startups to gather money to produce.
To counter this, he suggests protectionism and heavy involvement of governments in large initiatives.

Basically, he wants to tie the economy to actual physical production. This might seem like a good idea, but it would severely limit possibilities to innovate and it would require a fundamental change in the way we use and view money.

As a expert on the subject I have some predictions.

The Market will go up.

The Market will go down.

NOW PAY ME!

They used to have a stand at my campus when I studied in the US. They claimed that the bridge between denmark and sweden was their idea. that Computer games was a means to program kids into becoming soldiers in the US army. And finally that nazim had appeared only due to free trade, and that some american politican(which I cannot remember but that argued for free trade) was intending to start nazism anew in the US. They handed out brochures and was generally nice people.

The way I see it is LaRouche suggests a solution to this crisis similar to the one used in the Great Depression. This seems flawed, as today's society and the one back then are vastly different. Any such solution today is mere speculation. At best.

Sounds like he should move to China. I am sure he would be happier there.

Oh, wait, the Great Leap Forward failed miserably in China..., maybe not.

what ended the crisis after the great depression for the US was WW2.

I did.

Seriously, wonky housing market = economic crisis. I couldn't pinpoint when, but I was telling people ITS COMING before it happened. And I don't know dick about economics.

I dont know since I only know loosely of Larouche and the stuff he says. I have found stuff posted on an old fido net BBS by him from 1987. LOL

I will say this though, the US economy is heading for a collapse. Once the economy goes the Goverment wont last long. After all the hoorahing we did about the collapse of the USSR I find it odd that we take the same path.

...
The US economy now has absolutely nothing to do with how the USSR worked and I have no idea why you think they are similar.

Funny stuff:

The LaRouchians are everywhere. When I went to the local university, they used to distribute a Swedish version of their newspaper to the student dormitories (in large quantities, too).

LaRouche is a nut job and his followers are looking for questions to support the answers they already have in hand.

Larouche is more than happy to stir the pot and see what comes up... he is also williing to forget that he comes from a marxist family and was a left wing radical until left wingers became popular in the 1960s. He decided that it was not profitable to compete with a growing number of hucksters all shilling the same sort of leftist ideas so he remade himself a right winger and dedicated himself to finding supporters (money) from the other side.

he offers a slightly less crazy way to be on the far right wing.
