Looking for more music like this

For a while now I've been listening to some 90's game soundtracks, and I've been really struck by some of these dark space atmosphere mixed with techno/electro...stuff from some games, mainly sci-fi, obviously.

For example:

Or obvious StarCraft:

Know some similar music you'd recommend?
Doesn't need to be from games, I imagine there are films with similar music, which I probably already know of, but can't recall. I'm pretty sure that some musicians did stuff like these independently, but again, I don't know or can't recall.
In general, something that would fit the description.

Oh, and if it is from the game, is it worth playing?

Thanks.

P.S. I was thinking about putting this in the "Identify..." thread, but I guess it is better off like this.

System Shock 2 has music similar to this, I think. Here's Chicajo's remixes of SS1 music.

Thank a lot. I'll download remixes later, and I'm currently going through System Shock 2 tracks on Youtube.
Sounds just like what I'm looking for.

I listen to a bunch of synth/electronica, but most of it stays out of the movie soundtrack style.

Recommend some stuff?
I'm absolutely new to the genre, would definitely like to know more.

Hell the first 2 Quakes had music that sounded kind of like this. oh, Perfect Dark had a pretty good soundtrack too.

Actually what I meant to write but for some reason didn't is that I listen to music that can be characterized as "space" but it's not really "space opera". I'll drop a few titles though so you can see if it's anywhere near what you're looking for.

Delerium: Spheres
This Morn' Omina: Le Serpent Blanc - Le Serpent Rouge
Empusae: Error 404 - Metaphorical Loss

I liked SS2 more though

There is also the band Feindflug which I love to listen to sometimes. Pretty good songs in my eyes. Though I am not sure what genre it is. Hard electronic? No clue.

Welcome to the wonderful world of electronic music.

I present to you goa psychedelic trance. Contrary to popular belief drugs are not necessary for you to enjoy this, but they can help.

Electronic genre covers a really broad spectrum, this is where your personal preference comes in to play. Do you like it fast or slow, meaningful or brainwashing, are you chilling or partying, are you happy or sad.

If you dont know what you want/like there are online radio stations which have a lot of electronic sub genres. Try tuning in and listening maybe you will find something there.

90's Techno/Electro, well a good place to check is some of the ... whatever the 90's called indie... counter-culture films like Hackers.
Dodgy film but that's a choice soundtrack for the kinda techo music you might be after, easily found on Youtube.

As donperkan said it's a very wide genre but on the upside most of it's fans are less anal about what a specific sub-genre of music is compared to metal heads. :V

Right. I forgot about that game. Also, NIN.
Thanks for the reminder.

Right.

That's about it. I really like Delerium.
Thanks again.

Wow, man, that's a damn impressive list. It will take time to go through all of that, even though I know some of it already.
Thanks a lot!

Will do, will do. Thanks for the heads up.

This. Psytrance was my entry into electronic music.

(Most of the above aren't psytrance).

Hah I actually downloaded Tribes 2 last year just to get the Ice map music. Sooo good.
Ascend is too classical + guitar modern stuff for my tastes but has some tasty beats here and there.

I've actually heard of psytrance earlier, but never really got into it. Though, to be honest, I wasn't much interested in electronic earlier either. Guess I'll give a listen to some stuff.
Some of the stuff you posted really sound good.
Thanks.

I might check the games also :V
Was thinking about downloading Ascend.
Thanks.

Do it now.

You played quake and unreal right?

Yeah, I have, but it was a long time ago. It's almost as if I've never played them, I only recall bits and pieces of it.

As for the Ascend, I will definitely download it, but not right now since I have quite a bit games to finish, but once they're all done, I'll try Tribes out.
