A couple of those people were still wrong.

(For example, all the people who said "Hurr Durr, The Enclave's main goal was to get rid of teh supermutants and teh ghouls)

Can you link me to the 9gag post?

I absolutely hated 9gag gaming section because it was such a hype-hole. But recently every time there's a post trying to mention games like Skyrim as a 'good RPG' or even a 'good game', there would be a comment or two at the top putting it down with pretty reasonable argument and quite a lot of people agreeing with those comments. Seems like the Witcher 3 and the fact that proper RPGs are out there and easily accessible kind of wake them up.

It would be interesting to see how far the 'gaming' audience at large starts to mature a bit.

IIRC, from back when I browsed 9gag, the top comment was almost always disagreeing with the post. Probably because people there don't really downvote as often as other sites, whereas they upvote frequently, so comments disagreeing with the post can become top comment fairly easily.
 
I like how they throw a a cookie for West Coast Fallouts, the rest is all West and fucked up context

It was a long time ago. Sadly said post was upvoted like crazy so I doubt the audience has matured.

It's not trolling. I mean details about the BOS and Capital Wasteland are wrong but it's the general shape of it. It reminds me how scholars would probably view the events from a century or two.

Quite a lot of it is still rather wrong though and the OP (especially the one on 9gag) obviously meant for it to be taken seriously.

It was satisfying to watch the OP get flayed by all the comments pointing out every lore inaccuracy in that post.

Eh, with a little cleaning up, it actually would do well as a way to get people the opening crawl version of Fallout's history.

It requires a lot actually. Misinterpreting the Brotherhood and Enclave like that while brushing over things like New Vegas are among the things that needs to be fixed.
 
Advanced (X-01 ugh) Power Armor, by West-Tek and pre-war. That's enough.
Also Phipps, didn't they miss the introduction of T-60 PA? ;)

Thing is, 9gag is rife with upvotes bot, and most of the audience were too fixated on getting as many upvotes as possible. Hell, so many times long ago genuine member of the community had been calling out these automatically upvoted post which had barely been out for a minute but already had like 300 upvotes but no comment whatsoever.

Fortunately, like JO'Geran mentioned above, genuine comments are a little bit more trustworthy indicator of seeing how far the audience's maturity go.

Based on most comments these days even on Redderp, Fallout tourists (gonna borrow this term) are a receding and unpopular minority that rarely leave their safe spaces.

They regularly get lampooned on by other commentators all the time for being so fanboyish and whenever one bashes New Vegas, there are twice as many responses calling them out & fully countering all of their points. It's a nice contrast to how it was during 4's hype season.

That's because of what I said one year ago, many people who like Fallout 4 will grow out of it and move to the next shiny thing. They will look back and go "I like Fallout 4, I played it for a long time in the past. But now I like *insert new game name here* more.", in a couple more years many of the people who almost worshiped Fallout 4 will change their minds.

People who like the classic games almost never stop liking them, but people who like the new shiny games will usually move on after a few years (and some will even start to like the older games instead).

Yeah... nowadays games like Fallout 4 are like passing trends. They peak at one point before dying off fast.

Classics (along with games worthy of being classics), on the other hand, are timeless.

Like BioShock, FarCry, Crysis... all good games but in the end they are all just generic shooters with forgetable story. That is what bethestas fallout is generic rpg shooter with horrible story, forgetable characters, illusion of choice with no real consequences.
