Ok , enough with the appearance of FO:T for me , for now...
Let's talk about the Power Armors in Fallout...

It began with the ORIGINAL POWER ARMOR - which was very cool, and in my opinion the best.
It really looked like some sort of a cool helmet with design-addons and crap, and the armor itself was very nice with that wheel in your back....

THE 2ND ARMOR worried me.
It looked like an OWL, or a Crow, or some sort of a weird Eagle... and i'm like... uh.... now they are making armors in the shape of animals?

But ok - it didn't look so bad in the game itself, so i didn't care.

Then - THE NEW (or DIFFERENT - whatever u'll call it) Power Armor...
they should call it : THE CHICAGO WACK, or something....

That thing is a joke.
The body of it itself looks like some lame attempt of a MUSCLE-ADJUSTED armor, which looks SIMPLY BAD, and the HEAD.. well, let's just say the word SKULL sums it up...
If fallout 2's helemt was a bird, this one is it's skull....

I can't wait to see who will defend the 3rd armor (or the 2nd).

I am going to use yr words to defend. If it looks like a muscle-adjusted armor, then it serves it purpose. U dun have a body of a mutant how are u going to fill up those hollow spaces? If it is shaped like a skull, then it will look frightening. Look the skull-heads are here, RUN.....

I rather think that the BOS pwr armor helmet looks more like an Insect's head. (preying mantis comes to mind) ..with antennae..and those eyes. How can some one see anything through those eyes...

the armor looks fine..but i always wondered what those 'fins' are on the back...recievers? wind-breakers? antlers for stabbing .. you can stick dead body pards onto them and walk around

oh and i think that they should put that wheel back too..or maybe change it into a tire..like those on the back of SUV's and you can customize your Tire covering with snazzy customizations.

I DEMAND A TIRE!! or maybe a faucet..faucet hill do fine

There always been one thing that bothers me about the power armor in general: How the hell can they take a dump with power armor on!!

i always think that you can remove the armor..and put it on (after all, it only takes a second!)
lol..maybe the outfitting and removal of pwr armor should be made to take time..about 20 minutes..like sleeping, except you dont regain HPs ..hehhe i never thought of that:)
or you could have a little trap door..heheh maybe that wheel was used to empty the reservoir..eww

I agree that it looks like a bug. I like the retro look of the Fallout 1 and 2 armors. In Fallout, the armor was supposed to look like knight armor. Fallout 2, the armor was supposed to look like vintage WW1 gas masks.

Now they look like ants. :)

Hehehe, next they will think of making them like dinousars. In fallout 2, in new reno, when u wear power armors to have sex, the hookers will say.... I forgot. But I know it is something funny. :)

Like Saint Proverbius (hmm?) said - Fallut 1 was like a knight's armor (with a futuristic design) and some addons,
and the 2nd one looked like a BIRD - but he said it ment to look like the old gas masks (although it still looks like the gas mask I HAVE in my basement (i live in Israel))...

BTW - I didn't say the 3rd armor is "muscle-adjusted" - PAY ATTENTION to what other people write, not to what you want to hear...
I said - "it's A LAME ATTEMPT TO MAKE A MUSCLE-ADJUSTED ARMOR - BUT IT CAME OUT like crap"...

The first 2, and especially the original one - presented their "muscle-like" build in a much nicer way.

In the new armor you can see like 30 ab muscles - and that's lame... and it goes on with other body parts...

ANYWAY - about the helmet.
AGAIN - u only heard what u want to hear.
I didn't say it'S A SKULL - i said - "if fallout 2's helemt is a bird, than 3 is it's skull"

NOTICE that this doesn't mean it looks like a skull (umm... i'm thinking about that MORTAL COMBAT dude who has this skull for a mask - NOW THAT LOOKS GOOD) - or is not frightning.
It simply looks very ODD and weird - more like a ROBOT than a helmet+armor of a HUMAN BEING...
AND it's so odd shaped, thin, and contains holes - that it doesn't look like a helmet, but like the head itself...

PLUS - the anti-perfection of it OOZES... it simply looks FLAWED, BAD, EWWW....
While THE OTHER TWO (even the fallout 2 one which i didn't like too much) - look WHOLE AND PERFECT.
Fully designed....

In today's design-talk it would have been said they have sex-appeal, and the 3rd armor looks like a frog.

JUST TAKE A LOOK at the first fallout helmet and see how perfect and good looking it is.
Certainly something you would actually BUY for decoration for your room... or something...
Some could say the same thing about Fallout 2...

I doubt the same thing could be said about Tactics Helmet...

Uh, that felt good, Klayhamm. I already thought I´m the only one, who really hates the new Power-Armour...

Where the hell is all the retrodesign, that made Fallout so cool?! Either the guys at Microforte don´t have any idea what that point in their briefing meant, or it was just dropped, because the new focus group (10-year-old wrestling fans) is not able to appreciate or even recognize it. Or is the chain across the chest meant to be retro?!
IMO Microforte´s designers just did not do their homework. They should have had a look at late 50´s/early 60´s design one more time... without this look, Fallout is just another SF game.

What makes it even worse, are those guys, who are satisfied with just anything, as long as it looks evil and super-powerful, inventing hundreds of silly explanations, why the PA cannot look any other way. (You should read the "About the new FO:BOS power armor" thread in this forum, for some really interesting thoughts, that CERTAINLY influenced the design of the new PA!)
As if it would look shitty, just because I can´t understand WHY it looks shitty. I bet, if the new Power-Armour had Mickey-Mouse-Ears, they could explain why...

And btw, I think, Microforte really shouldn´t let their 10-year-old trainee make the concept-drawings. Or at least not publish it.

I hated the concept-drawings too....

See, the thing about the australian-game-destroyers (aka MicroForte) is that they CAN draw concept art (although IMHO - IT's kinda half-lame, it looks simply awkward) - and they can make 3D armors, but they simply look like CRAP, or more correctly - THEY ARE NOT SUITED for what they were made for - FALLOUT WORLD.

Check the original concept art of fallout, for example.
It consisted of something that REPRESENTED fallout in a VERY APPROPRIATE WAY.
No realistic drawings - but amusing cartoons of the fallout-boy - with his 50's look (as if he was taken from a commercial) - with things connected to fallout (perks, guns, skills, character settings...)

How more RETRO-CARTOONISH can you get?
For fallout IS - AFTER ALL, a very cartoonish, humorous game - and also a very retro-style game...
YET it deals with SERIUS issues (war, guns, post-apocalytpic future, radioactivity, death, mutants, survival, sex, drugs, alcohol, gambling... hehe)
This a very integral part of what makes Fallout - Fallout.


FALLOUT TACTICS, with its VERY APPROPRIATE bad looking armor - is exactly what fallout ISN'T...
Hi-Tec looking, Sharp, clean, NO DIRT, no FEEL... it feels like you took X-COM or Jagged or any of those games that i never played - and TRIED to copy them to fallout universe - unsuccessfully...

And that's what makes the new game - suck.

Fallout was unique in it's DESIGN. in it's LOOK.
YES - 256 colors and low-res IS WHAT'S BEST FOR FALLOUT.
like 16 colors was what's best for WASTELAND (the game)...

IF - the designers of Tactics were talented enough to TRANSLATE, or move the FEEL of the original fallouts somehow into HIGHER COLOR AMOUNT and HIGHER RESOLUTION - bravo.
They failed.
It looks like crap. WHY?
Because it's CLEAN, SHARP, NO CONTRAST, NO BURN, and no WASTELAND.

Watch the movie Mad Max 2 - and then open the FO:T Demo once more.
THEN try to tell me this game presents the wasteland as it should (or more correctly - as FO1 AND 2 did)

Pretty colored armor!

Hey, Klayhamn, Chris Taylor just confirmed that you get to pick your own colors for the armor when you generate characters.

Figured that'd make you happy. You want drab, you can have drab colored armor.

I think I'll still go with the really bright armor and hair color though.. Kind of reminds me of the Splatter Punks in Robocop. ;)

if you insist the creators of tactics aren't talented i insist you try making a post apoc CRPG

14 degrees east was told to make a squad based tactical game, not an RPG. therefore some of the things you've mentioned had to be dropped.

you CAN'T have a squad based game in 640x480 windows at 8 BIT
with 16bit you have VARIETY and 800x600 is perfect for purposes of tactical importance. imagine having to command 6 guys in 640x480, combat would be crippled.

IT's NOT FALLOUT3 , IT'S A SQUAD BASED GAME based in the fallout universe

your opinion is that "the alpha demo of tactics has not captured the feel of fallout" and that's about all

i suggest you wait till BiS gets the okay to work on fallout3, then you can judge things like "it's not falloutish cuz it's 1024x768 32bit colour and made using the Monolith engine"

and i think that you're absolutely right about the armor deal..Fallout's original pwr armor, (im looking at the cd cover) looks a lot more Life-like..with all those filters and oxygen-wires ..along with what looks like a head-mounted light...looks MUCH more life-like and original as opposed to the new "BOS" armor, which has NONE of those filters/wires/eyepiece. They gave it a sleek look, which is not what is needed here!
I think they need to make it look more like it was ASSEMBLED piece by piece like the original armor..instead of having been somehow MOLDED from a single piece..if you get at what im trying to say

Maybe some body needs to post 2 small pics of each armor to see side by side..THEN youll see how CRAPPY, bland, and plain silly the new "BOS" armor looks.

You know, looking at the new Power Armor, it reminds me of the first time I saw the new Batsuit in the first Batman movie.

It looks to me like they wanted to make it look scary to ignorant savages so they formed it too look like a muscular bug monster. It's go the ab muscles, chest muscles on the outside, and it's fairly ergonomic as far as the shape of the face. It's really way too organic compared to the previous armors.

If it were designed during the U.S.A./China war, I really doubt any engineers would have designed it that way. However, if the BOS developed it after the war, around the time of the original game, I can see them making it organic to scare the tribals. If the purpose of the design were for psychological purposes, I can see why it's like that.

As far as the chain goes, maybe it's supposed to be one of those shoulder ropes that the military has on their dress uniforms. If it's not a sign of an achievement, I really don't know why the hell they'd either allow such defacement of a PA. PA is fairly sacred to the BOS, I don't think they'd allow a nonuniform look to it.

well i agree with you about the chain and the antennae..but what i really think the deal is thats making ppl pyst - the armor helm looks more stretched in the horizontal direction, the eyes are bright-orange with the head shaped like a watermelon..positioned horizontally onto the torso with 2 forks stuck in the back..when looking at the http://feedback.interplay.com/fallout/images/armormed.jpg the original </A> power armor, I think that you can easily get the impression of some one inside..when i first saw it, i marveled at all the wires and such, wondering "what if a bullet hit there..or here?"

the suits, i think should look more like they have been assembled while coping with a desperate lack of resources, scraping together every little piece and gadget, salvaging it from pre-war technologies to create each suit..this is how the original looks..and then look at the new armor and what do you see?...tho i think that it appeals more to some people
