Monkey Island Returns

In more ways than one.
Not only is LucasArts releasing a remastered version of the Secret of Monkey Island, which is totally kicking rad.
http://www.lucasarts.com/games/monkeyisland/ - Check that out.

But Telltale games, known for their excellent Bone and Sam & Max series, is working on Tales of Monkey Island, apparently to be released next month (the first episode of course).

Great time to be a Monkey Island fan.

I really enjoyed their Sam and Max games althought I did reach a point where I lost interest, maybe I was just burnt out on 'em. I'll jump in and finish the rest in anticipation for this coming out.

BTW I cant visit the site because I'm at work... will this be coming out as a freebie on Gametap as well?

Heh I just wanted to open a topic about this as well.

So how do you people feel about the new MI games?

Part 1 and 2 part of my most favorite adventure games ever, MI3 was good as well but I didn't like MI4 that much and actually never bothered to finish it.

I wonder if Telltale returns to the classic mouse interface.

If it's anything like the Sam & Max seasons then they should be using a mouse interface.
I can't wait for the swag they'll be selling, hopefully they'll be offering posters, soundtracks, and etc. like the they did with Sam & Max, I love that junk.

This news has made me dig out an old copy of MI and fire it up. It's still a great game. Hope the new pimped version manages to keep the humour of the animations.

I want Curse of Monkey Island.

I am not sure yet if I will be happy or not. I really love MI 1 and 2 but everything after this was bad in my opinion. It's just not the same anymore, I fear.

Don't get your hopes up, guys.

Why not? Nothing wrong with a remaster and Telltale are certainly proven Adventure fiddlers.

I think the reason he is saying not to get your hopes up is what happened to Fallout.

Many people here got their hopes up when FO3 was coming and then they got their hopes crushed. I actually liked FO3 but you get the picture of why you might wanna be cautious...

Uhm, I - actually - didn't have had any hope with Fallout 3. It was clear that it will not be like what we wanted to... but this is a different story and a story that has been told already one batzillions of times.

To the new Monkey Island game... I am not sure if I will like it or not at least because of the graphic style (I already didn't liked MI3). The rest... I don't know, we will see.

Because the market hasn't been good for old franchises lately. And it's not just Fallout.

Most people here certainly didn't. And this is also not exactly relevant here. Fallout 3 was neither a remake, nor a sequel made by people who have shown they know how to handle Fallout-style gameplay.

Here you have a seemingly faithful remake, and a series of episodes made by people who have clearly shown they do this kind of game very well.

There's a huuuuuuge logical fallacy here. You assume that this is somehow logically connected.

Because I know in what state is the gaming market now. And I'm not saying that new MI will be bad for sure. I'm saying to not get your hopes up.

Is it just me or this is getting old? Sure gaming isn't exactly in the golden age right now, but damn.. There are at least some people who are capable of making decent games. Telltale can make decent adventure games, that much we know. And remake is a remake. So why shouldn't we get our hopes up? Cause there is a chance they won't come true? Aren't hopes always based on chance anyway? Otherwise they wouldn't be called hopes, now would they? :)
