More Fallout Then Fallout (MOD)

Ravager

Look, Ma! Two Heads!
While I'm waiting for my new PC parts to arrive I thought I could still run the G.E.C.K. on my old PC and do some modding so I stated from something simple. A APA retexture:

Just add/unpack the files to your FO: NV Data folder. Here are some links:

Gloves:

The armor should look more like the FO2 one.

So I hope you'll like it.

I'm also planning on retexturing other armors and some weapons so more will come soon so I'll keep this updated.

Next up should be the service rifle. Larger model, larger ammo and re named to the AR-10. 308 Will also be re-named to the 7.62mm like in FO2. Give all the weapons proper names etc. etc.

---

Update

Added a new model and texture to the Service Rifle - Soon to be renamed to the AR-10 which is basically one hella nice M-16 that fires 7.62mm rounds (changed name of the 308 which is practically the same)

(already contains the new APA texture)

Please test the new model and texture for me and post some screenshots. My old PC can't really run the game and I wanna know how it looks when it's held by a character. It's got a new model (20% larger) and texture.

There are already a few mods that make it full auto so I'd recommend using them before I get to it myself.

Pretty cool, as much as the weathered look might be realistic, i do prefer the more pristine look.

edit: is there a reason you can't put the texture edit on the nexus?

The original look is the most realistic one. Let's not forget that those are:

1) Nearly brand new armors manufactured after the war by the Enclave.

2) Their composed entirely of lightweight ceramic composites or made of a combination of metal and ceramic plates.

3) The tech in Fallout is far more advanced then real life teach.

Our current alloys are nearly rust free. I can understand the rust on the metal armor and anything else. But composites, military alloys from the future??? Please...

True and if you think about it, the armours you get off the Remnants are in fancy enclave stasis anyhow.

Imo, the only problem the armor has is, that it looks like made of metal. Instead, the armor should look like it's made out of some high-tech material... which is not metal.

The armour was pretty white looking on most rendered shots.

But this is just the APA. Which was mostly metal anyhow and looks pretty black outside of renders.

"It is composed of lightweight metal alloys, reinforced with ceramic castings at key stress points."

The Advanced Power Armour MK II had the fully ceramic construction.

Uh, no, these aren't brand new suits. These are suits that are over four decades old and have been sitting in a bunker for at least three decades, collecting dust and moisture. Hell, even Kreger remarks that he's surprised that everything is still in one piece.

2) Their composed entirely of lightweight ceramic composites or made of a combination of metal and ceramic plates.

Both of which aren't immunce to getting dirty.

You mean all those CRT monitors, room-sized computers and lamp-based electronics? Yeah, that's super-high-tech right there.

Aren't immune to getting dirty if they weren't maintained or cleaned in the past 30 years.

Yeah, weren't they some sort of ceramic composite?

Yes. And those tend to look metallic depending on composite. Like this one:

I'm working so I can't reply to everyone, but if you take a look at even the old T-51b's you'll notice their rust free.

Rhombus.jpg

Scratched and lacking paint, but not rusty.

So I rest my case. These are the most realistic looking versions.

And Tagaziel:

The Fallout world is behind on miniaturization, but they have microfusion cells, mechanized armors with hydraulics that turn simple soldiers in to walking tanks + power sources that can last so many years.

As for dirt - it's easily cleaned, and if yo didn't notice yet the much older T-45d doesn't have any rust on it at all.

In any case the point is no power armor should rust. Think what happened if it did? The hydraulics would just stop working at some point and you'd be trapped in metal shell somewhere in the middle of the desert.

The Bunker seems fairly climate controlled and they were in those special Enclave stasis pods.

Here's a picture. Need to get a third person mod so you can zoom out more..

Haven't tried it yet..

Do you use photoshop to modify the textures? I,ve tried modifying them, but when i go to save, i don't know which option to pick in the nvidia plugin. I always mess the normal map up and the textures don't go back on properly.

I kinda had this idea to standardize the Combat Armors. They all looked pretty much the same in the game and only had a few minor differences.

I'd replace the Combat Armor and Reinforced Combat Armor MKI with this:

CMB1.jpg

And MKII With this:

CMB2.jpg

Trust me when I say that the brown pants looked really, really bad... I tried retexturing them in 2 ways, but in the end I felt like someone took a dump on them. So I kept them black so they would look better. I really hope you don't mind.

The armors look more similar, but they have their differences. The MK II should be looking as a MK I upgrade instead of a completely different armor.

You see I'm planning on fixing a great injustice so we can finally have Hermes back. That's why I kinda need to retexture the original MK II to black/gray and replace the Enclave Tesla perhaps... what do you guys think?

The thing is... the old games had these big heavy power armors. Not only were they relatively grime/dirt/rust free, but their size alone was menacing. Power armor in 3d should look like the marine armor did in Starcraft 2. I'm not talking textures here, just size. Sadly, the new games have to work with the Gamebryo engine and can't have the same big bulky armor - the animations are limited and won't allow it. So they just made big shoulderpads and big helmets. And instead of making the armor look bigger, that actually made the rest of the armor look even smaller and weaker in comparison. And on top of that the level of grime and dirt makes the whole thing look like a joke. Now, PA should be visually awesome to match the stats, the technological edge and its rarity. It should be a personal tank.
Since we can't do this in size and proportions, the best alternative is to make the armor look cleaner and more advanced. Look at the ranger armors in NV. Look at the Chinese stealth suit. Those may lack size, but look pretty elite.

So I say, maybe we should just have cleaner versions of the PA with smaller helmets and shoulderpads.

Hell, you know what, I think I'm going to make a mod that cleans up the power armor from most of the grime and adds minor details here and there.

Those look good, best retextures/models i,ve seen so far. Though are you sure the second picture it right? Looks identical to the first at a different angle.

Could possibly use a backpack though? Like in this mod.

http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35411

Really gives you that feel that it's the same armour as in Fallout 1/2. A different colouring around the collar would also make it look more like it does in the Fallout 2 item picture.

I was thinking of a Athena/Hermes mod myself, tied into a quest, but i can't as of yet do modelling/texturing.

Really, if it were me, Hermes should be a upgraded Combat Armour MK II and Athena should use the Enclave Tesla armour possibly modified or bulked up somehow. In Van Buren, they were intended to be projects finished by the player, which from a crafting perspective is possible in New Vegas.

There's a lot of Power Armors out there. Are you talking about the T-51b?

Van Buren had a nice model.

Believe me I tried, but there was just too much work that would take a long, looong time. So I went on a compromise and simply made the armor look more like on the 2D model:

The armors may look identical at a distance, so you'd have to get close to see the differences. Their both Combat Armors and the MK II was just a bit different so I kept it a bit different.

Good question about the backpack tho. Does anyone know how to add those? I checked that mod but came up with nothing. I'm not good at scripting. In any case the backpack was not on the model.

I was thinking about power armor in general, mainly Brotherhood armor. The T-45d and T-51b have so much dirt and grime, they look like they were dug 2000 years ago. Power armor should be a lot more durable and clean. That's just my opinion though.
I like what you did with the APA. It looks a lot better without that yellowish crap smeared all over it.
