Unlike modern fast jet aircraft the Joint Strike Fighter, which is planned to replace the famous Harrier, does not have a ‘traditional’ head-up display – instead the computerised symbology is displayed directly onto the pilot’s visors.

This Helmet Mounted Display System provides the pilot with cues for flying, navigating and fighting the aircraft. It will even superimpose infra-red imagery onto the visor which allows the pilot to ‘look through’ the cockpit floor at night and see the world below.

just decided to follow the theme of my last title :P

This is some insane gadgetry right here, I love the concept.

And yes, you read that right, the pilot will be able to see through the walls and floor of the cockpit.

which allows the pilot to ‘look through’ the cockpit floor at night and see the world below.

Like the time Jacob and Teal'c had to navigate their Goa'uld cargo ship in that mine infested system!

... Frackin insane.

It would look awesome if it weren't for the cartooney eyes on the thing.

I'd just like to remind our new alien overlords that as a verile young man, I will be happy to supply them with a surplus of slaves to work in their spice mines...

I may be wrong but I don't think those are painted on, I think those are the dude's actual eyes. For some reason the light makes them look weird but I could be mistaken.

The eyes look awsome.... THAT IS FUCKIN BADASS...

Now... humanity needs to prove itself worthy of the technology.....

Nope.

the glow on the eyes is the HUD.

the helmet is designed to be able to work without a HUD physically in front of him, only the helmet.

You know, it's the little Union Flag on his uniform that polishes off the whole picture.

Why would they install this system into F-16s? They are basically daytime budget fighters. More than likely your going to see this in B-2's, F-117s, and F-22s.

I miss the days when technology looked nerdy and scary.

As do I, mostly because I assumed that computers would get scarier and scarier and I'd become the king of the new Techelite class of human society...

Oh well, at least I can still be snooty when people come in asking for things that I know very well!
